Second Family

Resource Page

What is a second family? For our purposes here, a second family is the family of a non-custodial parent who, after a divorce, has gone on to start a new family. (According to statistics, this is generally the male.)  A second family is also, sadly, the forgotten family. Court and the media place little value on children from these families, adhering to the belief that a parents primary responsibility is to the children of the divorce. And while this is true, of course, it would be naive to expect the divorced parent to live alone for the remainder of their lives.  In any event, this is not the reality.  Most divorce people go on to remarry, and many, start new families.

There are many different websites concerning varying aspects of divorce: fathers rights, step parenting, second wives, etc. We have not, however, come across a page specifically for second families. We plan to fill this page with book titles, articles, legal research, and suggestions, specifically geared to the concerns of second families. It is our mission to educate and empower those who visit. The more we learn about our unique situation, the better prepared we will be to live up to the challenges set before us. And with all the additional obstacles that a second family faces, we need all the help we can get!
