QUESTION????
Could CAPITAL Punishment Be A Deterrent
To Crime?
MY OPINION.......
At the present time the answer is NO, however
it could be yes with some changes to the present way the system is
administered. One of the major problems now is the time it takes to
execute the sentence. 8-20 Years (this is ridiculous) the whole
process should take less than one year from the date of arrest. This
includes the trial, a maximum 2 appeals and the execution of
sentence. We need to send a clear message to criminals that we are
not going to tolerate it anymore.
Why Capital Punishment and not life in prison
with no parole?
What's the point? If there is no chance of
parole, then we are not concerned with rehabilitation, yet we as
taxpayers still have to foot the bill for this "person". It cost
taxpayers between 30-40 thousand dollars a year to house someone in a
maximum security prison, on top of that we must allow them to take
college courses, file frivolous lawsuits, etc... Life in prison
allows the opportunity for these "people" to escape and murder, rape,
terrorize good honest citizens. People say this is rare, but what
would they say if it was their wife, husband or child murdered by one
of these criminals while he was out. (Amazing how one's views change
on capital punishment when it affects them personally).
Unfortunately, criminals today have more
"rights" than many people. Anytime convicts can sue the state because
the state won't provide him with Air Jordans or the playboy channel,
then something is definitely wrong. Personally, I feel they gave up
their rights when they were convicted for their crimes. I believe
prison is a place for punishment... period. Lets stop making excuses
for the criminals, such as... they're a victim of society. It's tough
out there. Millions of people survive through poverty, hard times,
without becoming criminals. Maybe we should look deeper into why they
became criminals, however, that is another article.
The bottom line is they committed a heinous act
to be given the death penalty. These "people" are just plain rotten
and will not be missed by society. I say good riddance.
I firmly believe if the death penalty was
instituted correctly, crime would decrease. Even if the death penalty
only stopped one person it would justify it.
