Thomas Slemmons' Will

This is the will of my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather's will.  I have transcribed it exactly as I have it.  Except for the fact that I captialized and made bold all the last names to make them easier to find.  This is a copy of a copy and has parts that are difficult to read.  Hope you find it interesting.

This is from the Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania Will Book C. Vol 1, pg. 57

In the name of God amen The 25th day of Octorber 1765
I Thomas SLEMONS of the County of Lancaster and Township of Salisbury farmer, being sick & weak in body but of a perfect mind and memory thanks be given to god.   Therefore calling to mind ye Mortality of my Body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will & testament; that is to say, principally & first of all, I give & recommend my soul in to the hands of God who gave it and my Body I recommend to ye Earth to be buried in a decent Manner at ye discretion of my Executors; nothing doubt in but at the general Resurrection I shall receive the same by the mighty Power of God.  And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this Life; I give, desire & dispose of the same in the following manner & form. --- In Primis, I leave & bequeath to my eldest son William SLEMONS, the sum of twenty pounds current money of Pennsylvania.   to my Seconds son James, Sixty Pounds to my third son John, Twn Pounds, & the horse he now rides.  To my eldest Daughter Elisabeth five pounds.  And to my Daughter Isabel five pounds. To my Daughter Jean Thirty Pounds. To my Daughter Sarah Thirty Pounds. To my Daughter Margrate Thirty Pounds, all of like current Money as above.  I like order that (a whole line here that is unreadable) shall have each of them a common furnished bed, two cows each & the Horses & Saddles they now claim; and ye Margrate shall have an House or Ten pounds in money.  And that they shall live in this House, or some other on the Plantation, & be supported by it while they remain unmarried.  And likewise that my son James shall live in the family as usual, if he pleases, while single. ----- I do also leave & bequeath all my lands Houses & the remainder of my Estate, to my two sons Thomas & Robert SLEMONS, their heirs, Executors Administrators or Assigns upon condition that they shall pay all my lawful debts; & the Legacies above mentioned, within ye space of three years after my demise; And order that each of them shall have an equal share of the same after all debts are discharged.   Likewise I make & ordain my well beloved sons John & Thomas SLEMONS to be the guardian of my whole Estate.  And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke disannul all & every other former Testament Will, Legacy & Bequeath & Excutor, by me in any way bequeathed; valifying & confirming this & no other, to be my last Will & testament.  In witness whereof, I have hereunton set my hand & Seal the day and year above.
