Spanky's
Vacation, Part 3
Soon after Spanky woke up in the tent,
his friends got up.
They all went outside and while his
friends cooked breakfast over a fire,
Spanky wandered around. He enjoyed listening to nature
sounds and smelling the plants, animals and birds.
After breakfast, his friends asked him if he would like
to go for a walk.
"Walk" was another favorite word. Spanky loved
to go for walks. Sometimes he acted as though he could walk all day.
When they started walking, the air was cool, but soon
the sun rose higher in the sky and the air got very hot. Spanky's fur was very long and
soon he was so hot that he began to pant.
Still, Spanky kept up with his friends. They had to call
to him every now and then, because he would start following a scent and wander off.
Then, Spanky smelled something new. He started following
the scent and even when his friends called to him, he kept on walking.
When he didn't come back, his friends followed him. They
couldn't see him through the tall daisies growing everywhere.

Finally, they found him. He had followed the smell of
water and found a small pond used to water the cows. Spanky was standing in the pond,
letting the water cool him down.
This was the longest walk he had ever taken. When they
got back to the tent, Spanky jumped up into his chair and took a long nap.
