After God made everything, he put Adam and Eve in a beautiful garden. They had lots of
animals to keep them company and many different foods to eat.
|
Adam and Eve enjoyed the garden. Because the weather was always nice, they didn't need
to wear clothes. There was nothing to hurt them in the Garden. They ate when they were
hungry. There was food everywhere. In the evening, God walked with them and talked to
them.
|
God told Adam and Eve they could eat anything in the Garden, except the fruit of one
tree.
|
One day a serpent asked Eve why she didn't eat the fruit of the one special tree in
the garden. The serpent told her the fruit was very good. Eve told the serpent that God
said not to eat that fruit. But the serpent kept talking to Eve about the fruit. Finally,
she decided to eat it.
|
After she tasted the fruit, she offered some to Adam. He told Eve that God had said
not to eat that fruit. But Eve said the fruit was good and that nothing bad had happened
to her.
|
So, Adam decided to eat the fruit, too.
|
That night, when God came to walk with Adam and Eve, they hid from Him. They knew they
had done something very wrong because they ate the fruit. God knew what they had done and
was unhappy.
|
God told Adam and Eve they would have to leave the garden. Now it would be hard for
them to find food. They would have to work hard for something to eat. They needed shelter
from the weather. They had to wear clothes to protect their bodies from thorns and
insects. God would no longer walk with them in the Garden.
