Group Preparation and Selection of Foster and/or Adoptive Families (MAPP/GPS)
Do the expectations and abilities of prospective foster and adoptive parents match the realities of
foster and adoptive parenting? The group preparation and selection model for prospective foster and adoptive parents prepares them for their roles. It also helps them make informed, mutual decisions with agency staff about whether fostering or adopting is appropriate for their family. The program includes 10 three-hour group meetings for prospective foster and adoptive parents and a series of family consultations between individual families and agency staff. These group and individual activities lead to both education and self-assessment for these parents. CWI has assisted agencies in 16 states and the District of Columbia to implement this program which helps agencies prepare foster and adoptive parents for their challenging roles. The Certification Training for new leaders is conducted in 8 days.
