GPS for Children Exposed to Drugs or HIV is designed to help agencies select and develop families to care for children who have been prenatally or perinatally exposed to drugs or HIV, This program can be offered as the 11th and 12th meetings of MAPPIGPS, or the program can stand alone as in- service training for parents who have or have not been prepared through MAPPIGPS. The leader's guide documents two three-hour meetings including options for viewing three videos. The program includes tools and features which link it to GPS, such as the family portfolio, the Eco Map, the strengths/needs approach, the Twelve Skills for Successful Fostering and Adopting, strengths/needs work sheets, partnership development plans and a case study updated from GPS, These tools and features provide a smooth transition and a familiar practice context for GPS-prepared parents; however, GPS for Children Exposed to Drugs or HN is designed so prior experience with these features is not necessary. MAPPIGPS-certified leaders who will facilitate GPS for Children Exposed to Drugs or HIV are trained in a two-day program.
