Fostering and Adopting the Child Who Has Been Sexually Abused

Sexual abuse is widespread in this country. Disclosure of the sexual abuse often occurs while the child is in care. Faster and adoptive parents need to be able to respond to the double trauma that children experience when they have been sexually abused and removed from their birth and/or foster families. This in-service training program prepares parents to help the child disclose the abuse and resolve his or her feelings. Parents learn to work in partnership with other parents, the agency and other service providers to meet the special needs of these children. The program offers 12 three-hour meetings; agencies can choose from the meeting topics to meet the needs of their foster and adoptive parents.
