Faithful Servant's Books

God bless you as you teach your children!

Recently I received a letter within a letter promoting "free" curriculum. Yes I said FREE! Exciting isn't it. I am creating this page to promote "Faithful Servant's Books". You will find on this page a letter stating how they began and why they endure as well as directions on how to obtain this list of free curriculum (you must pay postage for the curriculum). I hope you will email Faithful Servant's Books and tell her how much you appreciate her efforts. Thanks.~Lambslight

A letter from Faithful Servant's Books
When we made the decision to home school (with nine children, six of our own and three extra, it was a big decision) we knew that it would be difficult to purchase the necessary materials. Being a large, one income family, there is rarely any money for extras. To add to the problem the spring before our first year of home schooling (you know the time when you are buying your materials) my husband had a full coronary and we found ourselves without income. We were nine weeks before we even saw an unemployment check. With no money in the bank we did not know how we were going to feed the kids so home schooling materials seemed beyond our reach... but not beyond God's reach. Somehow God saw to it that not only did we not starve to death but when fall came we had enough materials to begin home schooling. Since then we have seen hard times (vehicles breaking down, medical bills, job changes) I am sure you can relate. But by His grace we have always been able to somehow find the money for the school books. Somehow they always got here. This past spring my husband was given a used computer from work. He fixed it and presto I was on the net. Being in a rural area I had had very little opportunity to buy used curriculum. Needless to say I was thrilled. I started e-mailing my heart out, ordering the books the kids needed for fall and getting them used! As I looked for what I needed I noticed ads for items I already had. People were selling items that I would have gladly given to someone at prices of $10 or more. It really bothered me that people felt the need to recover so much of the price of their materials they were blessed to get. They got a whole year's use out of them...The whole thing bothered me. I prayed and then I saw an ad for a mother who was just starting home schooling and needed everything. I e-mailed her and offered to help. I didn't sell her material, I gave away what I didn't need and lent her what I will need back. She e-mailed once and said I had a servant's heart. (You didn't think I came up with the name did you) and I thought that's the way it should be... homeschoolers helping homeschoolers and not making money off of them.

I prayed and then I took a look at what I had, not much money, but I had books. Then I prayed again and decided that I could squeeze $10 a week to buy more used books. We started buying all the used curriculum we could and started looking for mothers who needed help. Faithful Servant's Books has two projects.
The first is the free book list. All the books and materials we can find are put on this free list. I e-mail it out to anyone who asks for it. Everything on the list is free to any family who can use it. The families do have to pay the postage but if they cannot afford it we try to help them. The free list will continue to go out as long as I can find items to put on it. I have some hopeful prospects for books from a local library and I am starting to hear from a few people who are beginning to offer books they no longer want
The second project is a book rent/loan program. I have offered and am lending out both single items and whole curriculums. this school year a couple of dozen families will be home schooling with almost if not all their materials being lent to them for free. The families do have to pay the shipping both to their house and then the shipping back to me at the end of the year. The shipping is done at book rate and that helps keep the price down. for example one family borrowed all the material for two grades. The shipping was $13 one way. When they are done it will have cost them $26 for two children for the whole year! How long can we continue? We don't know. But, we are going to try. If we enable one child to home school rather then be forced, because of money, to go to public school, then all the work will be worth it. Will we be ripped off? I guess it is a walk by faith. Come next summer maybe some will not return the books, but God will help us to still have what we need. I believe that most if not all home schooling families will appreciate the service and respect the rules.

YES! There are rules.
1. Families are asked to take good care of the materials (try not to feed them to the dogs or use them for muddy boots)
2. Families are not to write on or in any of the materials (we put all the answers on paper to save the materials for others to use) There are a few exceptions to this such as the little ones math.
3. Families are to have the books returned to me by the return date.
4. Families are asked to please pray for Servant's Heart Ministries and me (I really need it).

Well, that's the story of Faithful Servant's Books. Built from the idea that there is more profit in helping each other than in making money from each other. After all is not everything we do to encourage good, Godly education of this generation really an investment in all of our futures? Will we not all benefit from a better generation which will be running things?

If you have materials for sale please get us a list of the prices and we will buy what we can. If you ever want to help out with books or materials you will have our sincere appreciation. If you can find it in you to pray for our us please do! If you ever need help please contact us we would be honored to do what we can.
Thank you for taking the time to read about what we are doing.
