Parent’s Responsibilities/Meet Workers

Responsibilities

Each parent is needed and expected to help in some manner. The gymnastics booster club, made up of team parents, has been organized to assist the competitive and class programs in many different areas. Because of the booster club’s active and continuous involvement, the YMCA is able to keep team expenses the most affordable in the area. Parents are needed to help in the following areas:

1. Work at home meets (3 regular meets, 1 Invitational Meet, YMCA District Meet) or take a kitchen organizing position, meet worker organizer position or family fun night organizer position

2. Participate in a fundraising to acquire funds for the following:

      a.     Equipment repair and replacement, or purchase of new equipment

and materials when needed for the class or competitive program

      b.     Team banquet at the end of the season

      c.     Awards for home meets

      d.     Support special events for the class & competitive program

      e.     Coach expenses for Zones & Nationals

      f.      Judges fees at competitions

4. Organize their group in regards to setting meet times and officers in order to:

      a.     Help run home meets—details such as timing, tabulating, setting apparatus, kitchen,

clean-up at end of meets, etc.

      b.     Transportation to away meets

5. Assist with class projects such as spring show and other Center events.

6. Pay team fees and other team expenses on time.

7. Get daughter to scheduled practices and events, and support daughter to meet her commitment for the gymnastics season.

Meet Volunteers

As a parent, you are required/needed to work at 5 meets during the season unless you take one of the kitchen, meet worker, or Family Fun Night positions. It could be a mother, father, sibling, other family member or a friend that takes care of this requirement. We have a very large team and need the help to have our meets run smoothly. The kitchen and pro shop proceeds make up a large part of the booster club budget.

The week before the meet you will be notified about your job. Sign up sheets will be posted in the judges’ room by the end of Sept. If you are signed up to work and have to make a change, please get a sub and let the person in charge of the area you were supposed to work know about the change. There will be a person in charge of kitchen workers, on the floor workers, pro shop and tabulating.

This year, usually L4 & L5 will compete in the AM session. Warm-up generally begins between 7:30 am and 8 am. Meet start time is usually 9-10 am. The morning session will last 3-3 1/2 hrs. The afternoon session is run as a modified capital cup format which means as soon as AM awards are over, the afternoon session begins. This season due to numbers, L6 will usually be in the afternoon with L7, L8, & L9. Modified capital cup is the 1/3 warm up/compete; then other 1/2 warm up/compete. So once the girls march in, they will be competing usually within 15 min. These afternoon sessions start right after lunch and last 4-4 1/2 hrs. If you work the same session that your daughter is competing in, you will get to watch her performance. Parents work together to keep track of the competition, and who is ready to do a routine. Or you can choose to work the session that your daughter is NOT competing in and then you can watch her entire meet.

      g.      Kitchen (4-5) - in AM & PM

      h.      Pro shop (2) - in AM & PM

Parents help will also be needed with fundraisers and other team projects. Parent involvement in Booster Club projects helps us keep our team fees the lowest in the District.
