YMCA General Information
The organization’s responsibility is carried out by the associate executive director or the gymnastics director. Leadership and direction will be provided in the following areas:
Hiring and supervising of coaches. Oversee participation in the NEO Cluster meet schedule. Implementation of YMCA philosophy in the competitive program. The gymnastics booster club—keeping open communication between parents and the YMCA in regards to correct YMCA procedures concerning the program. Providing help for further training of the coachers. Keeping the YMCA Committees informed of the activities of the competitive program. Setting team fees.
*Note: Team fees are set to cover the coaches’ time, gym time, equipment, administrative time, and incidental materials. By necessity, as costs go up, team fees will need to raise. The Boosters’ donation of equipment and time helps greatly in keeping the fees low. We are the most reasonably priced program in the area. |
YMCA Philosophy
The competitive gymnastics program follows the YMCA sports philosophy that stresses good sportsmanship, safe and quality instruction, and a positive approach. This includes respect for coaches, officials, teammates, and parents.
Team gymnasts are expected to practice hard and do their best. We try to mix good work habits with a fun and sharing environment. We DO NOT use negative coaching techniques such as yelling, belittling, or threatening.
We recognize individual differences such as age, size, experience, and mental readiness in order to place gymnasts appropriately.
We understand girls are busy with school, church, community, and other sport activities. Whenever possible, we try to work around schedule conflicts so gymnastics participation can continue. We do encourage our team members to do well in their school work and to be involved in other activities. |
