Leslie Genealogy

William Leslie, my great-great-great-grandfather, was born circa 1804, probably in Leslie Hill, Derrygarve, Castledawson, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. (Wow! What a mouthful!) Indications from various family sources were that he was a farmer.

Before I begin to outline this information in detail, I must identify my family sources (thus far), since a wealth of my information has been pooled from my data as well as other family members. They are:

  1. Glenna McBride of Canada
  2. Brian Anton of USA
  3. James (Jim) Leslie of USA
  4. Patricia Leslie of Canada
  5. Samuel Leslie of Canada
  6. John Leslie of USA
  7. D. Alex Leslie of Canada
  8. Edna Roberts of Northern Ireland
  9. Leslie Ruth Ball of Canada

As you can see, my family spread pretty far from Northern Ireland. There is a strong possibility that at least one of the offspring of this family made his/her way to Australia but that hasn't yet been proven. Only family hearsay at this time.

William's siblings are yet a bit unclear. I have one positive identification. His name is Moses Leslie. Proof has been provided by James Leslie through family correspondence. Another individual may be unrelated, a brother or a cousin. His name is James Leslie - circa 1799 and his name was provided by Brian Anton.

I am continuing my research.

William was married to Rosanna McNeight on December 31, 1830 in Castledawson, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Their children were:

Alexander - Oct. 24, 1831
Eliza Ann - Dec. 16, 1833
Sarah Jane - Feb. 24, 1836
Thomas - Sep. 21, 1838
Samuel - Mar. 1, 1841
Mary - July 27, 1843
Nancy - Apr. 14, 1853

So far, an abbreviated pedigree through to myself looks like this:

  1. William Leslie / Rosanna McNeight
  2. Thomas Leslie / Elizabeth Hudson
  3. Alexander Leslie / Elizabeth Campbell
  4. Ruth Leslie / Leon Wilcox
  5. Harold Leslie Wilcox / Barbara McWhorter
  6. Leslie Wilcox / Wayne Seich

I hope to continue gathering more information on this particular line of Leslies. If you wish to view a more detailed report on this line, please access my Family Tree Maker Web page.
