 | Surname: McWhorter. Also spelled McWhirter, McWherter, McWorter, MacQuirter,
MeWhorter, etc. There are many variations.| Heritage: Scottish. However, there are Irish McWh*rters as well. | Surname Translation: from Gaelic, Harper or Harperson(1) One who played the Harp. | Surname Origination: more than likely in the southwest of Scotland. Probably near the Stinchar River. The name arrived in Northern Ireland sometime in the early 1600's due to English Crown encouragement.(2) | Clan Affiliation: The Clan Buchanan.
