Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games

June 7-9, 2002

Well, this was quite an experience! I had booked airfare to go out to visit a friend and his family, purposely coinciding my visit so that I could attend these games and say hello to fellow CLS members of the South West branch. It turned out to be great fun.

The games were much larger in attendance, vendors, and activities than those that I am used to here in NJ. NJ Highland games don't disappoint me; it was just nice to see a games of much larger scope.

I was able to visit the CLS tent at the games and see my friends David Leslie White and Tim Leslie. Also there for me to greet was Madolyn Leslie Stewart and Joseph Lesley. I met an Abernathy family as well (they're in the parade photo below). I participated in the parade and in their branch meeting. David had some gorgeous photos of Leslie Castle, which he has sent me digital copies of so I can use them on my CLS board for my tent display.

I found these games very entertaining and hope that someday I can return. Maybe David will host a Gathering in the future? My feelings on this are: Hopefully!

A small section of Clan Row. The CLS tent is the third down on the left.
David Leslie White is the convener for the SW branch of the CLS. It was really great to see him again. I first made his acquaintance at Ligonier, PA at the CLS Biennial Gathering 1999.
This is Tim Leslie. I first "met" Tim on the Internet and began corresponding with him. I met him in person at the Ligonier gathering as well. He refers to me as "Jersey" and I call him "Texas".
Here we are marching back to the tent area after the parade. Tim is hidden by the Leslie Tartan flag and our sign is obscured but none-the-less, we're still Leslies! GRIP FAST!
Here's just a representation of the traffic that the CLS tent gets at these games. I would be in heaven to have people stopping by all the time! They had traffic most of that Saturday.
Here's the whole group that marched in the parade:
