LANDER COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

This is the very first Lander County patch. It was probably issued around 1957. Lander County never had a patch before this. The Sheriff's Office was established in 1862. This patch is county shaped. Lander County is also known as The Mother of Counties. Elko, Eureka, and Lander Counties were once all the same county. Can you imagine the size of your patrol area? Lander County alone right now is currently 5700 square miles! Sheriff - Don Maestretti: 1954-1966

Displayed courtesy of a previous Sheriff. This patch is #1 on my most wanted list.

This is the second Lander County patch. This patch was introduced during the term of George Schwinn. Earl Johnson was the undersheriff in 1966 and 1967. Johnson helped to design this patch. Johnson actually served as Sheriff for a time when Schwinn was called into active duty for the Army Reserve. Sheriff - George Schwinn: 1966 - 1978.
This is the third patch from Lander County.

Sheriff - Thomas R. Beebe; 1978 - 1982.

This patch is state shaped, and in the center of the patch is a true and correct location and shape of Lander County

This patch was designed by Undersheriff Larry Coy. Larry Coy went on to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. This patch remained in use during the term of the next Sheriff, who was Steve Bishop, (term 1982 - 1994).

This patch was voted as the Most Ugly patch in the Nevada P.O.S.T. academy of 1991!

This patch was introduced during Sheriff Moore's term, 1994 - 1998. A new uniform and patch was introduced beginning January 4, 1999, see below.

This patch was designed partially by yours truly, and my friend Glen O'Brien (who wants to be a lawyer now). After we submitted the prototype, some changes were made.

If you wonder what that is in the middle, it is supposed to be a longhorn bull. The High School's mascot is a longhorn bull. Sheriff Moore (at the time) promised that the agency members would design the patch, but then at the last minute he took our prototype over to the High School. The students there finished the patch. The sun that seems to be rising in the mountains was supposed to be gold in them thar hills, but didn't turn out the way it was wanted.

The new patches have been ordered and are available now! See below. Check here to view the prototypes.

These are the current patches. They are being officially worn These are the patches of the new Sheriff, Mike Kranovich. Kranovich took office in January, 1999.

The left is the new shoulder patch, and to the right is the new patrol badge patch.

These are the two Detention patches, the should patch and the badge patch.
And of course the Animal Control badge patch, and the Animal Control shoulder patch.

The green in these patches is actually a bit brighter than the scan shows.

Last, but not least. There is an Explorer shoulder patch, left; and a Sergeant badge patch to the rigth. The badge patches are worn by the Detention officers on their uniform shirts. The patrol only wears the badge patch on the winter jackets and jumpsuits.
Here is the new Lander County patch. It is currently replacing the last style as the uniforms get replaced. Officers may wear either patch until they get new uniforms, and then the new patch must be worn.

THESE NEW PATCHES ARE ON SALE!!! PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR DETAILS Klaus Altemueller
