Mineral County Sheriff's Office

The county seat of Mineral County is Hawthorne. There is a large ammunition depot there. From 1928-1977 the base was the World's Largest Naval Ammunition Depot. It was turned over to the Army in 1977. Then, in December of 1980 it became contractor operated as it is today. The bottom of Lake Hawthorne is littered with exploded and unexploded ordnance. They used to test-fire ammo over the lake. I hope to have a page up for Babbit P.D. pretty soon, which was located adjacent to Hawthorne. I have a lot of information about the agency, just no patch yet...
There are two patches in my collection which are about the same. They are made of felt and one is much darker than the other. They came in about 1987 or so. Sheriff John Madraso took over for two terms in 1982 and he is the one who changed the patch from the round generic one worn before this one. This is the other of the round style patches. Thanks to John Lewis for the information. See my guestbook for more information about John. I still don't know when they were replaced by the one below.
This is now one style back. This patch bears a remarkable resemblence to the current style Lincoln County patch. I wonder if there was a collaboration involved in the design of the two patches. This is the current style badge patch.
new style Mineral County patch This is the new style Mineral Co. S.O. patch. It is identical to the Mineral County, WY patch, except this one says "Nevada" on it. The Wyoming patch doesn't.
