Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was formed in 1973, which just happens to be the year I graduated from High School. To the best of my knowledge, there has only been one patch used since that time, with some slight variations depending upon manufacturer.

There is no way of telling which patch was the original. These first three patches are about the same, except for slight color variations.
The background of this patch is much darker than with these others. My guess is that this patch either goes on the winter uniform, or it was just a different manufacturer. I am positive that there are several Las Vegas officers out there who can tell me the difference. As far as I know, these three are examples of the current patch. There is a difference in the lettering and in the center logo of these three patches. If you look closely, you will see that the color of the sky is a bit different.
This is the badge patch. There could be more. This is a new badge I just got, but it looks older than the one to the left. The Homicide patch is worn on ball caps and golf shirts, so that everyone can identify them on crime scenes. Most of the time they are on call-out, and can look like anything except a cop.
This is a fairly recent patch. Before the SWAT team had a patch of their own, my understanding is that they wore a unit identifier. The UI was a small rectangular patch worn on the front right side of the uniform shirt. See my LVM Unit Identifiers page for some of those.

Metro Volunteer Program

Officers may wear this patch on one sleeve. This patch is to commemorate the 25th. (silver) anniversary of the department. I don't know if these come off at the end of the year or not.

The Crossing Gaurds are non-commissioned individuals who help kids cross the street during school hours. They are part-timers and normally senior citizens. The patch is worn on ball caps and jackets.
