This picture is of the home place of Mrs Lillie B Eccleston (nee Richardson) from around 1892 or 3 to 1901 when it was destroyed by fire. The picture was taken around 1892 or 4 when Daisy P., my sister was a small child and is shown in the arms of her nurse and our cook - who at that time (I think) was a colored woman called Avy Jane - I do not remember her last name. She had a large family of her own and was sister to Lou's (another cook we had later) mother. By her side is my brother - Norris, who died in 1902 around Jan 20, my mother. Lillie B Eccleston is shown in front yard (facing the picture) on the left and further back is Avy Jane with Daisy and Norris. On the right is a man who I think, is or was rather the yard man at the time, probably Ben Crump, the husband of Sallie who also later cooked for us. Or it could be Green, a colored man who ocassionally worked for us. An addition was later made to the house on the right of a large extra room. Neither my younger brother nor myself is shown in this picture. His name is James B Eccleston. He is now living in Big Spring Texas, My sister, Daisy owns this picture and lives at 600 Beech St, South Norfolk, VA. This was a lovely home with the comforts of the age and time. I lived here from 1892 (or 1893) until my marriage in 1900 to D Frank Sears. My husband died in 1925 and I am spending a few months here at 600 Beech St with my sister, whose health is not so good and whose husband is also poorly. I noticed this pucture today and decided to write a small history on this back for anyone whose hands it may fall into. My children are all in California, the living ones and my future address will probably be 405 W Robinson, San Diego, Cal or 1231 West 3rd Big Spring Texas, written by Mrs Lucy Lee Eccleston Sears
