My thoughts on Max Perlich |
Not everyone is cool enough to appreciate Max Perlich's wonderful ability to play just about any character but he is remembered more than another favourite of mine Catherine Keener (if you want visit my site on her here). People will walk straight out of a theater playing her movie that she is a main character in and refuse to rememeber her. So even though Perlich doesn't have as a big of a fanbase that he deserves he does have more fans than other favourites of mine so I should stop complaining. I should but I won't. If you want to email me we can complain that talentless shitheads like Jeff Goldblum, Sean Connery, All Star Trek actors and Bruce Willis get more work than the wonderful Max Perlich. It is my beleif that they shouldn't be working at all. I boycott their films.
I became a fan when I was a kid after seeing Gleaming the Cube and he keeps popping up in various movies. I think everyone has seen at least one or two of his movies and tv. After awhile he became a favourite and I started watching movies just for his parts. Movies I never considered seeing before. I used to assume Homicide was like NYPD Blue (it is trying to be now) so I didn't give it a chance until I channel-surfed and saw him there. Then I was obssessed with the great writing and acting the show used to have. Yes season 5 wasn't as great which is the one season he was a regular but season 4 was terrific and he never did an unbeleviable performance on the show. He wasn't a detective on the show but they still shouldn't have axed him. I'm not going to write anymore about that show because it depresses me.
Max Perlich isn't going to be Whistler on Angel which is odd. Why have him do two episodes and then bring the character back with another actor? I'm not even going to try to figure this one out.
This is my brand new section on the site for my thoughts on Max Perlich. If you don't care to read it please skip on to another section. I don't want to hear that I shouldn't put this part on my site because I can. It is my site.
I'm not one of those people who think the only good parts are the leading ones (because they aren't) but I wish Perlich and John Malkovich were offered more than they are. I feel that Perlich is wasting his time playing the desk-clerk he did in Feeling Minnesota . It was too small. That movie needed more of him since it really sucked. I was happy though that he was in it because my time wasn't wasted viewing it.
He does everything perfectly. His mannerisms for each character, voice inflections, facial expressions, the timing he takes to say each line, etc. are all done the way they should be so I always beleive he is a different role for everything I've seen him in. As far as I know he isn't doing method acting (I hope he isn't) so unlike some "actors" he isn't using his own experiences to portray different people.
Max Perlich is defeintly a scene-stealer. You couldn't ask for a better supporting actor (though he could do so much more).
My favourite role of his would be David in Drugstore Cowboy . His scenes with the wonderful James LeGros (people I know also refuse to remember him) were fantastic.
Now I shall talk a little bit about why I have a website on him. The obvious reason is that I enjoy watching his movies and tv. My other reason is that he had no websites and I had been wanting to make one for quite awhile. I had no expeirence with html at first but I went ahead and did one after my John Malkovich page got started. I'm not one of those webmasters with sites of people I find "hot" but do these as tributes on actors I find incrediable. If an actor is great at their roles then they are telling you stories about other people and give you an understanding of other's lives. I can't stand other "actors" who play characters based on real people seem fake.
