Hello. Remember Alf? The sitcom alien that looked like a bipedal ant-eater? Well, you may be shocked to know of some controversey surrounding this role.
You see Alf, or "Gordon Shumway" as his character profile reads, was originally portrayed by a German midget named Stephan Dornheggen. You see, Stephan signed a conrtact for the role, but NBC didn't like the sound of his nasal German-accented voice. So they immeadiately dubbed-in the voice of a character actor.
Stephan of course was furious, but upon confronting the producers, he was fired from his position and sent back to Europe. They just hired a few midgets to take turns running around in the Alf suit and kept that dubbed in voice.
It may interest you to know that I met Stephan in a prison pen pal program. He sent me a letter explaining his plight from a prison in Dresden, where he was incarcerated for beating an elderly woman with a lead pipe. Aside from being horribly framed in the afore-mentioned incident, Stephan was terribly wronged by GE and NBC incorporated as he wrote the majority of Alf's backstory himself, inculding his appetite for cats! So please, send your letters to NBC.
