Family Tree Maker (TM) FAQ 004
I'm entering a lot of data from one source. Is there any way to reduce the number of keystrokes to enter all those citations into FTM?

  1. If you temporarily change the title of a Master Source to prefix it with an asterisk (*), this will cause that title to "float" to the top of the list of titles, which are sorted alphabetically.

  2. Now, when you make a citation, the source you want is always right at the top of the list. The keyboard sequence then goes like this:
    1. [select field to receive citation]
    2. CTL+S  enter source citation
    3. ALT+S  locate master source
    4. ENTER  accept selected title
    5. [enter citation specifics here]
    6. ENTER  citation complete
If you can avoid entering specifics, like page numbers, the pattern goes pretty quickly.
  3. newThe "Title of Source" field is a Fastfield. Entering the first characters, to the point of uniqueness, should recall the whole title. You can speed this up by temporarily prefixing the title with a unique character.
  4. newYou may want to Copy (CTL+C) the title to the clipboard, then Paste (CTL+V) it into the Title of Source field for each new citation.
Don't forget to undo any changes to the Master Source title when you are done!
