This dialog is used
to select individuals in different contexts:
-
Custom Reports
-
Merge
In each case, the object is the same: to specify which individuals are
to be included in the object or process at hand. You can choose All
or Select Individuals. If you choose to select individuals, you
can change which individuals to include by pressing the big button
marked Individuals to Include. This will display the Include
Individuals dialog.
The idea behind this dialog is that you have:
-
a list of all available individuals on the left
-
the list of selected individuals on the right
-
a group of function buttons in the middle to move individuals to and from
the right-hand list. (The left-hand list always remains the same.)
The meanings of the function buttons are (with reference to the
selected list, on the right in the dialog):
> |
Include the selected individual on the left |
>> |
Include all |
Ancestors> |
Include all ancestors of the selected individual on the
left |
Descendants> |
Include all descendants of the selected individual in
the left |
Find>. |
Present a Add Individuals search dialog to locate
individuals to include |
< |
Exclude selected individual on the right |
<< |
Exclude all |
<Find |
Present a Remove Individuals search dialog to
locate individuals to exclude |
The Add/Remove Individuals dialogs both have a pulldown on the left
in which you select the field or attribute that you want to use to search
for the target individuals. On the right is the search string or criterion.
Fields that have a limited input, such as "Sex" will present a pulldown
here with the available values to search for. Others, like "Name" will
present an input space to enter a string to search for. The Help
dialog gives a summary of the various (sometimes arcane) search mechanics. |
Find
String searches are case insensitive, and
will locate your string no matter where it appears in the target field(s).
You cannot do string searches
in the date field; you must confine your search to the cases listed in
Help.
Date months can be abbreviated,
except that "dec" is taken to be "deceased" [?] and flagged as an error.
The Ancestors of and
Descendants
of choices refer to a selected individual in the left or right
list, depending on whether you are respectively Adding or Removing. |
