You Should Have Been There:
The first WOLTZ/WALTZ reunion was held at the old Waltz church near Doylestown, Ohio. Mrs. J. W. Price of Decatur, IL, a great granddaughter of Peter Waltz and a granddaughter of the venerable David Waltz writes as follows concerning this gathering; "Although only eight-years old, I well remember the event. It was held in a big grove and lasted for three days. My mother, Fianna WALTZ Slanker filled a large clothes hamper to the brim with good things to eat. We all had a wonderful time and grandfather livened things up as you can imagine. There was a WALTZ band of twelve brothers, good singing, and inspiring talks. People came from miles around on the steam, roads, and in wagons. The weather was fine. There was a big platform built for the occasion, an organ placed on it, and when all the WALTZes sang, the grove resounded with melody. That was on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, September 19, 29, and 21, 1879." Both Doylestown and Wadsworth, the home of David WALTZ, the founder of the reunion, are within fifty miles of Cleveland. The crowds at the first reunion and many subsequent ones were estimated at about ONE THOUSAND.
We had a blast at a cozy Mountain Resort in West Virginia. So much so that we're already planning our 2003 reunion
