LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
OF MELCHOIR BARR, SR.

    In the name of God Amen in the twenty sixth day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy three I Melchor Barr of Macungie Township in the County of Northampton Husbandman am very weak and sick in body but of good mind and understanding for which I thank God; and as it is appointed for all Men to Dye & to be liable to Death, and it is said my put the house in order for thou shall Dye therefore I make this my Last Will and Testament first and before all I Resign my Soul into the hands of my Redeemer Jesus Christ who hath entrusted me with it to this time and hath purchased and Redeemed it with his Blood; my Body I Resign to the Earth from whence it was taken, it is Earth I must return again to be buried in a Christian like manner out of any Worldly Estate which I leave.  First I order that my wife Eva Elizabeth shall have my Plantation that is to say on the Hill, where Jacob Derfhim at present lives on, to live on with my Children so long as she remain my widow and also it is my will that my said wife Eva Elizabeth shall have liberty to take two of my horses and three Cows out of my Flock and her Side Saddle and Bedding & household Goods so much she wants to keep house with and to lodge the children with her, and it is my will my wife Eva Elizabeth shall have Seventy Pound in hand of my Executors hereinafter mentioned to build a House and Barn on the aforesaid land so that she can live on and further it is my will that my wife shall have three sheep and four hogs and all the Linen and Yarn that I have; and all this above I mentioned Land and Goods my wife Eva Elizabeth shall have it in her possession as long as she remains my widow; and it is further my will that all my other land and everything shall be sold by my executors hereinafter mentioned and they are to make and give a good Deed to the buyer of my land out of which all my Debts shall be paid, and after that my said wife shall have of Two Hundred Pound the Interest as long as she remains a widow and no longer and in case my said wife Eva Elizabeth should remarry again then the aforesaid Land shall be sold with everything she which has left in her possession then my Executors hereinafter mentioned shall pay to my said wife out of my Estate fifty pounds good and lawful Money and a good Bed and a Caber with her Clothing and linen in it and no more that shall be her full share and thirds out of my whole Estate and no more; the Remaining part or money shall be divided in equal shares among my Eight ; that is to say I give and bequeath to my oldest son Melchor Twenty Pounds good and lawful money.  I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob Twenty Pounds good and lawful money first and foremost of my other Children and then they shall have equal Shares among my other Children and shall be paid to each Child his Share when it comes to his age that is to say, my Sons to the age of twenty one years and my Daughters to the Age of Eighteen Years; and if so be that my wife should die before my two Sons should come to age then my Executors shall put them out to Apprentices and my said Children shall be Instructed in the Presbyterian Church and if any one of my Children should die without lawful heirs then its Share shall be divided among my other Children in equal Shares then alive and I do hereby Nominate and appoint my loving friends Anthony Haler and Leonard Steininger to be my Executors as also my loving wife Eva Elizabeth to be Executor with them so long as she remain a widow and no longer to be Guardian over my Children and over this my Will and to see everything performed according to the true Intent of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby Revoke and Discontinue all other and former Wills and Testaments by me in any wise before made and I do Richly and allow this only to be my Last Will and Testament.  In Testimony hereof I the said Melchor Barr have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Day & Year first above written Melchor Bar seal.  Signed, Sealed and Delivered b the said Melchor Barr as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us Frantz Wesko, Nicholas Klotz____Northampton County, Pa on the 16th day of March Anno 1773 Before me Lewis Gordon Deputy Register & personally appeared Frantz Wesko and Nicholas Klotz the witnesses to the foregoing Last Will and Testament of Melchior Barr deceased who being duly sworn according to Law did respectively declare and say that they were present and did see the said Testator Sign Seal Publish and declare the same as and for his Last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he the said Testator was of Sound Mind Memory & understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief.  And that they subscribed their names as Witnesses to the same at the request and in the presence of the said Testator and in the presence of one another.  Lewis Gordon D.R.
