Mediation is a communication method that brings together parents and a child or two adults to talk about issues that are causing problems. An impartial mediator assists in the process. The mediator is a professional or a community volunteer who has had extensive training.
Family Crisis Mediation aids families in peacefully resolving problems that might lead to unruly behaviors at home, in school or in the community. The mediator assists the family in exploring options and contacting community resources. There is no fee.
Mediation services are also available to resolve conflicts between adults in such situations as divorce, child visitation, neighbor disputes, tenant-landlord problems and workplace difficulties. The voluntary process can be used as the basis for legal settlement of an issue. The fee is based on a sliding scale according to income and household size.
