Deuteronomy 1 - 34
The book of Deuteronomy is made up of the 3 speeches that Moses gives to the people of Israel. Deuteronomy also gives us information about the death fo Moses.

Chapters 1 - 4
In the chapters of 1 through 4, you will read about the first speech of Moses. This speech is about "looking back." Moses is reminding the Israelites of how faithful God has been to them since they departed Egypt. Moses talks to God's people about their trip from Sinai to Kadesha and on to Moab. Moses promises the Israelites part of the land that they were standing on and he tells God's people to obey God.

Chapter 5 - 26
Chapters 5 through 26 contain Moses' second speech to the Israelites. This speech is the "looking up" speech. Moses talks to God's people again about God's laws and he tells the Israelites not to disobey God and make God angry.

Chapters (27 - 33)
The chapters 27 - 33 contain the words of Moses third speech to the Israelites. This speech is the "looking out" speech. Moses talks to the Israelites and he reviews the agreement that exist between God and His people. Moses tries to assure the Israelites that God will protect them.

Chapter 34
In the chapter of 34, we learn about the death of Moses. God allows Moses to see the promised land, Canaan from the top of Mount Nebo. God says, "This is the land I promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Moses dies at the age of 120. The Israelites are very sad at the loss of Moses. The new leader of the Israelites becomes Joshua.

When did all of these events take place?

1450 BC through 1400 BC

Moses tells God's people that a prophet will come and the prophet will speak God's words just as Moses did. Deuteronomy 18:18 says, "I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him." Joshua was chosen by God to speak his words like Moses did but when Jesus came, he was GREATER than Moses, Joshua or ANY of the prophets.

What do you think?

God allowed Moses to see the promised land even though Moses has disobeyed God. Have there been times in your life when you have been disobedient to God? All of us have sinned. The Bible tells us that "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 God loves you even though you are a sinner. When you have disobeyed God, you should ask God to forgive you. God will forgive you if you ask him to. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9 God loves us so very much! God loves us so much that he sent Jesus to save us! If you would like to know more about asking Jesus to come into your heart and to save you, please visit our page on salvation.

Next week when you return, you will be ready to study Lesson #8! Please tell all your friends about our Bible Study so that we can help share the "Good News" of Jesus Christ with every boy and girl in the WHOLE WORLD!
