This is a truly awesome machine.
This is the "office".
These are the pilot's controls and instruments. Each medevac crew consists of two pilots in front and two non-rated aviators in the back. During a mission, we have it pretty easy in the front as long as the helicopter and weather are cooperative. The crew members in back are busier tending to the patient. We have a crew chief (helicopter maintenance technician) who takes care of any mechanical problems as well as helping clear the aircraft in the air and keeping civilians from approaching us on the ground. Some of them have also had medical training so that they can assist with the patient. The busiest crew member on a mission is usually the flight medic. He or she has to take charge of the patient at the accident scene, and get the patient, any other medical personnel, and/or any family members on the aircraft, delivered safely (and still breathing) to the hospital. The pilots would be much busier if we were in a combat area, but as far as we know, nobody shoots at us on Oahu.
