Alfred (Army) Armstrong

CAMDEN -- Alfred (Army) Armstrong, 80, of Shady Lake Road, a retired Oneida Ltd. Silversmiths employee, died Tuesday Dec. 7, 1982, in Rome Hospital after a long illness.

He served in the Navy from 1920 to 1923, when he joined Oneida Ltd. He retired in 1967 as a hand repair man.

Mr. Armstrong was born May 7, 1902, in Heywood, England, son of James W. and Mary Ellen Clark Armstrong. He was a Methodist.

He was a member of the original American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in Oneida, the Oneida Guardsman Association, a life member of the Camden Rod and Gun Club, and donated the property where the club is located.

He had lived in Camden since 1949 and prior to that resided in Lenox Furnace.

Surviving are five sons, Robert J. Armstrong, Umatilla, Fla.; Floyd R. Armstrong, Glassboro, N.J.; Harry W. Armstrong, of Holley; James W. Armstrong, Englewood, Colo., and Richard P. Armstrong, Naples; a daughter, Miss Arlene Armstrong, Syracuse; two brothers, James W. Armstrong, Fayetteville, and Fred Armstrong, Syracuse; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Eddy, St. David, Ariz., 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Sanborn-McDaniels Funeral Home. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
