Lee
Final Rites Held For Mrs. Alice Russell
-------------------
Friends From Near and Far Come to Pay Last Tribute to Departed on Sunday Afternoon.

LEE, June 4 -- The funeral of Mrs. Alice Armstrong Russell was largely attended at her late
home in Lee, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. George
Butler, pastor of Lee Methodist church, and the Rev. W. Upham, pastor of the Baptist church
of Bartlett, who acted as substitute in the absence of Rev. D. Boswel, pastor of the First
Baptist church of Rome, of which she was a member, and always attended when it was convenient,
but always attended the church in Lee which was nearer her home. Here she had been a member
of the Ladies' Aid Society and the church choir for many years. She also was correspondent
for the Rome Daily Sentinel for over 25 years and for 20 years correspondent for the Camden
Advance Journal, which position she held up to her death.

Comforting words were spoken from the 14th Chapter of St. John. Two favorite hymns, "The
Old Rugged Cross," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," were sweetly sung by Mrs. Alice Riley,
soloist of Rome. Mrs. George Butler of Taberg, played several favorite selections on the
organ before the services.

Many beautiful floral offerings from friends, relatives and neighbors silently testified to
the love and esteem of the departed one who has spent nearly her whole married life of 66
years in this place and always had a smile and kind word for everyone and ready and willing
to help wherever she could. She will be sadly missed by a host of friends and relatives.
The bearers were Joseph Megerell, William Stage, Robert Talbot, Jesse Hyde, all near neighbors.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, Robert F. Russell, her daughter, Mrs. Maudie Gregory; four
grandchildren, R. Donald Russell, who has been in the U. S. Navy for the past six years and
stationed in the Hawaiian Islands; Miss Pauline Russell, Boston, Mass.; Russel N. Gregory of
Lee; Mrs. Clyde Weismiller, Westernville, and two great grandchildren, Ernest N., and Joyce
M. Weismiller of Westernville. Her only son, R. Fraser Russell, of Concord, N.H., who was
telegraph operator for the Boston & Maine Railroad passed away Sept. 28, 1940.

Interment was made in the family plot in Lee State Road Cemetery.

Friends who attended the funeral were from Lee, Taberg, Blossvale, Stokes, North Western,
Lee Center, Westernville, Lee Valley, Camden, Coonrad, Vernon, Eaton, Rome, Syracuse,
Bartlett, Westmoreland and Lake De;lta.

Preaching services will be held in the M. E. Church Sunday, June 7, at 9:15 a.m. Rev. George
Butler, pastor.
