Leon D. Strobeck; insurance agent

Leon D. Strobeck, 77, of 224 Church St., North Syracuse, died today in St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

He was a native of West Monroe and had lived in North Syracuse since 1925.

In 1926 he started the funeral home now known and operated as the Sears-Middleton Funeral Home. In 1929 he entered the insurance business and two years later sold the undertaking business. He had operated the Strobeck Agency since then and the firm is now known as the Strobeck-Rose Agency.

He was a member of the North Syracuse Baptist Church, Centerville Masonic Lodge 648, Central City Scottish Rite Bodies; and was formerly member of the Tigris Shrine.

Mr. Strobeck was a charter member of Syracuse Rotary Club and North Syracuse Business Men's Association, and the Mutual Agents Association of New York.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lila Murphy Strobeck; six daughters, Mrs. Ernest Rose, and Mrs. James Arthur, both of North Syracuse, Mrs. Charles Brown of Clay, Mrs. Allen Sales of Port Chester, Mrs. Ernest Weaver of Mattydale, and Mrs. Richard Brann of Liverpool; two sons, Donald W. of Cleveland, and Marwood D. Strobeck of Cambridge; a brother, Ernest C. Strobeck of Macedon; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the Sears-Middleton Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery, the Rev. Edward Stady, officiating.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
