Last evening at six o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Louise Howd, one of Camden's old and greatly respected residents. Although she has not been entirely well since a fall she sustained last December, Mrs. Howd's death is generally ascribed to old age.
She was born in Camden, August 30, 1829, on the old Wilcox farm on the Hillsboro Road. Her parents were Chester and Arelia Wilcox, her grandfather being Seth Dunbar, one of the pioneer settlers of this vicinity. When a young lady, she taught school in this neighborhood. August 5, 1855 she became the bride of Rev. Joel Howd. They moved west and lived there for thirty years, and upon the death of her husband in De Pere, Wis., in 1890, Mrs. Howd returned east and made her home in Syracuse until five years ago when she Camden to this village to live.
One brother, Edwin Wilcox of Montour, Iowa survives, besides numerous nephews and nieces. A niece, Mrs. Louise Needham of Saginaw, Mich., came several days ago on account of the illness of her aunt.
Mrs. Howd was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and as a loyal member will be greatly missed.
The funeral will be held in the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon at three o'clock.
