DEATH OF MICHAEL J. DONOVAN

Had Been a Resident of Utica for 34 Years.

Michael J. Donovan died yesterday morning at his home, 143 Third avenue. Two years ago last February he sustained a stroke of paralysis and was obliged to retire from active work. Still he was able to be about. Yesterday he had an attack of heart trouble which caused his death. Mr. Donovan was born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1853, and while there learned the trade of tailor. Since 1874 he had lived in Utica. Here he had worked for Heath Brothers and B. A. Son as a custom tailor and for 20 years previous to his retirement he was foreman of the custom department of Maher Brothers. He was a man of high character well liked by all who knew him. He was a member of St. John's Church, the League of the Sacred Heart and the Holy Name Society connected with it. In 1873 he married Miss Ellen Dorcas who survives with 10 children as follows: James J. of No. 2 Truck Company; John D. of No. 6 Engine Company of the Utica Fire Department; Michael J., William, Gerald, Mrs. Catherine Enright, Mrs. J. H. Hayes, Misses Anna and Nellie of Utica and Mrs. J. A. Scanlon of Syracuse; four brothers, John, William, Daniel and Timothy, who live in Ireland and a sister, Mrs. Margaret McGraw of Boston, and eight grandchildren.
