TABERG Feb. 8 -- Seymour E. Spinning, 89, formerly of Taberg died Feb. 2, 1952, in Buffalo of a heart ailment. For the past four years he had resided with his son, Ralph, in Batavia.
He was born Aug. 6, 1862 in the town of Lee, and as a youth resided in Taberg. He attended the local school. Following the death of his mother, he was cared for by Mr. and Mrs. George Evans, Coal Hill Road, in the present home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Barton . The Spinning family home is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Johnson.
After graduation from Cazenovia Seminary in 1885, he entered the law office of William H. Kenyon, Oswego. He was admitted to the bar in 1890, and became a partner of the late Isaac Evans, Oneida County judge, Rome, for four years. For the next 52 years he worked independently from his Rome law office.
He was known as the dean of Rome's legal profession.
He served for 12 years as justice of the peace and was a member of various boards, including the Oneida County Tax Equalization Board and the board of the former Murphy Hospital, now Rome Hospital. He was a former master of Roman Lodge, FA&M, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
He was twice married, the first time to Miss Adella Clark, then to her sister, Miss Harriet Clark, both died a number of years ago.
Besides his son, Ralph, he leaves two nieces Mrs. Arthur B. Walsworth, Rome, and Mrs. Kenneth Ostrander, Camden.
Funeral services were held at a funeral home in Rome Tuesday, with the Rev. A. C. Goddard, DD, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the family plot at Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg.
