OUR PRIDE AND JOY |
CORY |
I am sitting here thinking about how I want to start this page and it came to me to start at the beginning. Pretty smart huh? The beginning...wow that seems like such a long time ago. But in reality it was only 10 years ago. That's when this precious little baby boy was born. Having been a participant in the birth of my daughters, it was nice to set back and be a watcher this time. And watch I did. I was there every second I could be and I don't mind telling you that even before he was born MY feet were off the ground. Now I know that we as grandparents aren't suppose to spoil someone else's child, but hey I waited a long time for this and spoil is just what I did. and opps still do...Now would be a good time to show you a picture of this human we all call Cory..or Bubba..or Bud..or Sweetie.. |
Cory is a very bright child and I remember that at 4 years old he was kicked out of computer for tots class at his day care because the teacher said he was teaching all the other kids and there wasn't anything she could teach him. He spent many hours sitting at gramma's computer while grandpa sat at his. He loved just being with his grandpa. |
At the age of about 4 and a half Cory began to take Taekwondo classes with his Grandpa and his Dad. You see we own our own Taekwondo school called Nellis Taekwondo so he had been exposed to martial arts since he was very little. Well much to my happiness little Cory was a natural. It didn't take him long to work his way up to the top of his age group and by the time he was 7 he was in the top 4 in the nation in sparring. He would have to attend the Nationals in Sacramento and fight for the title of National Champion of the ITC. He made it all the way to the top and had one match left to fight and this little guy was so pumped you could tell he was going to win. Yes as you might have guessed our little Cory won his last match to become the youngest National Champion in the ITC that year. The trophy I swear was bigger then he was. But the smile on his face couldn't be beat. Just a little extra news....That same year Grandpa was in the running for the same title except in the Men's silver.(45 and older). We that same year I had the youngest National champion and yep you guessed it I also had the oldest National Champion in the ITC. Boy was I a proud wife and grandmother....OH YES I WAS.... |
Cory loves to play baseball and I might add is very good at it. He played 1 year of T-Ball and then one year of Coach Pitch and two years of minors. He loves his sports and is very competitive. He also is into collecting and trading Pokemon cards. Here it is Nov 1999 and you can see almost every kid in the neighborhood playing some sort of Pokemon game. |
Today is the 10th of Nov 1999 and after Cory having a chance to read what I have written so far, he told me that he wanted to write something because I missed some very important things about him. After reading what he wrote, my grandson was right. I had missed some very interesting things about him. So what I am going to do is just type what he wrote(which was written by him as though I had wrote it). I thought it was so cute I decided to leave it just the way it was. I don't really know how to start this but he is really smart. You should see his report cards. A straight A's every time. One time in 4th grade Cory got his first B. His mom went ballistic. I just yelled and yelled at him. ( I don't remember yelling but if he said so I must have). He is in G.A.T.E. It stands for Gifted and Talented Education. He is also in a program called Peer Mediation. He says it is really fun. In third grade kids voted for who they thought would be the best peer mediator. At first he didn't win until the kid transferred to another class so he got the job. He was so happy. He is doing so well his grades are inproving very much. everyone is so happy for him now. He is now in the 5th grade. So I guess you want to know how he got into GATE huh? Well his second grade teacher decides who will take the test. Well you guessed it , he passed with a score of 3 points below a child genius. Now isn't that just great, Also His screen name in the zone in TJG_Cor. I was so proud of Cory for writing that story about himself because in my eyes he is a very bright and confident child. What do you think? I know that his Mother and Father are very proud of him as is Grandpa and myself. Here is his latest picture from school. |
December 6th 1999 Cory had his Holiday program which was held at O'Callahan Jr. High School. We got there a few minutes early and got a front row seat. The night was filled with lots of singing of Christmas carols and if you ask me Cory was the best. But hey I am a little bit biased, I'm Gramdma. Here is a few pictures we took that night. |
Today 19th of Feb 2000 Cory went riding for the 3rd time. He is doing great. Fun to watch him learning and having so much fun at it. He fell twice and my heart stopped three times but other then that he did very good. Gramma can hardly wait to see him race now. |
In Jun 2000 Cory went to the race track to practice. Now this time I was a little bit nervous to watch this but he did very well. He fell twice again and cut his are but like a trooper he got up and back to practice he went. |
As we all know Cory loves to play baseball and of course is very good at it. This year was ghis first year at Pitching and did very well. His hitting improved also this year. |
Here is some pictures we had taken of the boys in an old fashioned setting. Boys had fun and so did I watching. Jun 2000 |
