Whoever Said That There Was A Solution To Every Problem
photo

My very dear friend Shivadas across the road in QR has a proverb (most of the times in Malayalam) for every situation and problem in life. He does not have huge Himalayan dreams and ambitions. What comes his way he would take. He has been very successfull in this from the time I have known him.. precisely from February 1993, when we joined Jet Airways together. He still has his exquisite and expensive sofa covered with a dull blue, nondescript sofa cover. All the richness of the sofa.. gone.. but saved for posterity. I pull my hair when I see this. But this practicality.. may be at a higher level. But the man is simple and nonchalant. Who cares if you think the dull blue on the sofa appeases you or not. That is the way it is.. and it is his sofa.

I am straying away from the subject. Yes he sees wisdom in anything and everything. Question... Whoever said that there was a solution to every problem.... I personally dont think so. If it was true there wont be any problems.. logically. Do you know why many have enough to waste when many go hungry for days... Shivadas.. wake up ..give me a proverb justifying this.. I will take it Malayalam also... dont worry. Sorry.. this is not for the affluent lot who are naive enough not to understand something so 'mean'. Sometimes when I drive around in my expensive car, I see in India a young man or an old woman, mentally deranged... drifting aimlessly on the road.. no where to go... no bed to sleep,. and no one waiting at home for them. I wonder whose "faults" are they. Shivadas.. I know you have some answers, as always,, which I disagree as always. These same 'mad' people were once the apple of the eye of their own mothers.. so what happened down the line.. when where they thrown away from the caring love of their mothers, and why. I know these things are beyond the preview of our daily routine... it cant hit our nerves to keep us awake at night brooding about it. I have a feeling, all these people on the roads also had the same view.. untill.... I was party to a situation one night to the helplessness of one such fellow human being. Unfortunately or fortunately I spent a good part of a monsoon night in a dark, cold and wet bus stop. Nobody around except myself and a 'mad' young man, who was sick and in great pain. His voice calling out for his mother in pain every minute.. still haunts me terribly. Why.. why did my loving God doom him to this life of penury sans his mother. If his mother was around, she would make sure he does not writhe in pain like this.

No it is not dooms day yet. I have a nice yahoo-360 friend in the US of A. A black American, who feels so passionately about the oppresion of the blacks, and about the way the blacks werer brought in to the US. It is one of those lonely voices.. it may not matter to any past, present or future presidents there. But it is his voice.. and stupid bloggers like me, have a lot of respect for his views. In the same way, mine is only a voice.. take it or leave it. It is supposed to stimulate our sensibilities.. nothing more. We can all get back to our routine, but the brain has reginstered one input, which may be of some use later. Today it is that young man on the road.. tomorrow it could be one of us... Nobody guaranteed sanity when we were born, sadly.

We need to spend a little time in thought or kind.. with such people, when we are able to. They dont deserve it, just the way we would not deserve it if it happened to us. I am sure all my friends are with me in this.

Love - John
