THE WALK

            My mother takes my hand
And we go out for a walk

The streets are wet with Springtime rain
            And we begin to talk

"How was your day?" she asks of me
I say that it was fine

"I'm glad you came to walk with me"
            She says "The pleasures mine"

            The flowers bloom proficiently
            Their fragrance scents our way

It doesn't seem to matter much
            That the skies are gray

A carriage passes by our way
The coachman says "Ride for Free?"

Dear Mother declines his kind words
And my heart is filled with glee

            This time alone with Mother
            Before we reach our door

Makes me feel a special bond
            I couldn't love her more

            Throughout the coming years
            These memories I will treasure

Of the walks I took with Mother
And the love shared without measure.
