Douglas Bywater began serving as Bishop of the Langley Ward in November of 1997. Through his years of service in the Church the Bishop has generally served in youth programs, both as a seminary teacher and as an Aaronic Priesthood quorum advisor. He has also served as a counselor in Bishoprics including the ward he is now bishop of. The Bishop is an avid sailor. The Bywaters have sailed to Bermuda numerous times, the Virgin Islands, and up and down the entire East Coast. He is also a skier and has taught many young people to enjoy this sport. Douglas and Ginny Bywater grew up in Salt Lake City and met at the University of Utah. They have three married daughters, a son currently serving a mission in Phoenix, AZ (Spanish), and two granddaughters. The Bywaters moved to the DC area when Douglas attended George Washington University Law School. He is an attorney in the firm of Tate & Bywater in Vienna, VA. "This is the best calling we have ever had. We feel that we are having way too much fun to call it service," say the Bywaters of their callings in the Langley Ward. |
