Need Summerside is know as the western capital of PEI. This city has had unique growth, because of the amalgamation fo Summerside, wilmot, and St. Eleanors in 1995. It connects two county's Prince and Queens. The mammoth eight-mile Confederation Bridge is just a short distance away, making Summerside a key location.
The population in Summerside is increasing from 14,500 in 1996 to over 16,000 in 1999. More than half of the married couples have a home containing at least one child. The second largest family structure in the city is run by a single mom. This gathered information demonstrates to us a great need for gospel witness and church planting.
Our God has commissioned us, "Go...and make disciples." The people need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, and recognize a sincere concern for their future. It has been said of Summerside, "The only thing we overlook...is the water." This area needs to be exhorted to not overlook Jesus Christ. We need to proclaim the "good news of Calvary." Jesus is the only one who can maintain inner peace, stability, and hope for the future. |
