HeartSong

Chapter One

A sharp pain flooded her waking thoughts. Why did she hurt so much? She tried to turn over to make herself more comfortable, only to find that she was somehow restrained. Her thoughts were dull and confused. She tried to clear her head. She tried to make herself think.

Slowly, she began to remember. The plane was crashing. She was falling. She thought to herself, "Doug!" and wondered where he was. Using all of her remaining strength, she forced her eyelids to open. Looking over towards the pilot's seat, she let out a horrified gasp at what she saw.

Doug appeared to be unconscious. There were scratches and bruises all over him. But one of his legs was covered in blood. Marlee couldn't tell if there even really was a leg still left under all the blood.

She tried to get out of her seat, but found that she was still strapped in. Her vision was blurry, so it was no easy task to find and unfasten the seat belt. It seemed to take forever, as she fumbled with the fastener.
