I was born on 10/7/43 at Miseracordia Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My mother had met my father in Winona, Minnesota while she was a waitress at a local cafe'. He was a soldier in the army stationed at nearby Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. They dated about a year and then he was to be shipped overseas for the war. He had asked her to go to Waukegan, Ill. to get married, but she had said they should wai till the war was over. He left and she found out she was pregnant.She tried to get ahold of him through the Red Cross. The answer came back through the Red Cross that he couldn't marry her because he was already married. After I was born, she sent h m a picture of me and said that he may be able to forget that ever knew her, but that he would never be able to forget that somewhere in this he has a little girl. His name is Odell Prentice Simmons and he was born in Kilgore, Texas around 1921 or 1922. He was first stationed at an army base in Arkansas and then sent to Fort Mc Coy and then overseas. I am a grandmother now and feel it is my responsibility to find out heritage and medical information for children and grandchildren. Time is of the essen e since he would be nearing 80 years of age. I do feel, however, that he is still alive. I don't want anything from him, only to know about his heritage and medical background. I was born Meredith Ann Bjerke(my mother's maiden name) and later adopte by my stepfather and given the name of Meredith Ann Kulbe. I am now married and my name is Meredith Ann Hurst. Thank You. |

My mother was 16 and my father was 22. I have received the non-identifing information from DSS. My father had just returned from vietnam and my moth r was already on juevenile probation when this pregnancy occured. I can only imagine this is why they took the adoption route. I do not blame them for this decision. I have learned the hard way not to judge people for there actions because you never know hat kind of decision my be around the corner for you. I have had an empty place in my heart for a very long time because I need to know who they are. My birth mother called me Rachel when I was born, so I inturn named my daughter Rachel. My adoptive pare ts are the best, in no way does my search reflect on the wonderful parents I have and my upbringing. There is just an empty space that I need to fill. If this search was only for my benefit I would not be so determined to find the end of the road but its ot. I have a six year old son who possibly has a genetic disease called "neurofibromatosis". The pediatrician does not want to put him through the genetic testing required to determine if this is the disease he has without knowing if there is a carrier of the gene in our past. My husband has checked out fine. In my non-id info from DSS I have a birth aunt which was described as having many problems and I need to find out the root of her problems. Every time I read that non-id info it gives me chills. To kn w that I am that close but yet I cannot find out for sure. My son is a very smart, active child and I want to give him every opportunity possible. He often gets worried because of the test that he has been put through and the symptoms of the disease that he has already experienced. I feel like I have ran into many brick walls and lots of red tape. I will understand (I think) if my birth parents do not want a relationship with me but for my childs sake I need a little information from them. I really do not know which way to turn next. I am on the adoption registers, I have hired two different lawyers, I have done every thing possible that I know of with DSS and still I have no answers. Can anyone tell me what to try next or where to turn ? In a way, I am j st like my birth parents..... I want to do what is best for my child!! |

She came to look at records in Lexington prior to me getting information to them. They tried mailing to the name and address she gave (Mar ha Dzur) but the mailing came back, I too tried but the mailing came back. She was born at the university. She has several natural born brothers and sisters with one sister a few months apart. Help |
