We also keep a few
goldfish around.
Sometimes in a
bowl
This was an experiment
taking pictures with a Snappy

This is a Ranchu in a mixing bowl on
the dinner table, no we didn't stew him, he went back to the pond.
We were trying to get some pictures using something called a Snappy,
a device that captures to your computer from video. Not bad, but not
as good as scanned 35 mm photos. Would have been better if we would
have had another inch of water in the bowl!
Sometimes
in a 10 gallon aquarium
This is a scanned
photograph.

Actually these guys live in a 400
gallon "above ground" pond made of landscape timbers. For a filter I
use a 5 gallon bucket of PVC ribbon. Makes an excellent
filter media, a 5 gallon bucket is light enough to lift out and
clean. To clean, once a month, I just lift it out of the pond, pour the water in it out, refill it once or twice, this is gentle cleaning, the bacteria doesn't get too upset, and the excess just falls off when
dumped out. I run a 1" PVC pipe to the bottom and put a tee on the
bottom so that the water, when pumped in gets fairly even
distribution into the gravel. Use a 500 gallon per hour Mag-Drive (by
Danner Mfg.) pump. These pumps are rebuildable, can be used submerged
or inline (out of the pond) and use about 30 watts of power. And list
at about $75. For pictures of this filter see the link from our home page.
And
then a friend sent me this Picture

These are known as 12 point demekins.
They are very rare goldfish and we do not know where this picture
originated. If anyone knows could you please let me know by
email.
They are called 12 points because
they have 12 points of red , i.e., eyes, mouth, and all the
fins.
