| Birth Story: On November 11th I went into the
hospital to be induced at 4:00pm. Around 5:45pm the Pitocin was started
and the doctor came in at 7:00 to check me and have them up the doses.
I started having regular contractions every few minutes, but didn't feel
them too much. Nothing much was happening for awhile besides having those
contractions. Around 10:30pm the doctor came in and broke my water. That's
when the pain started, I was having contractions about every two minutes
and after half an hour, DH asked if I was sure I didn't want anything for
the pain. I gave in at that point and said I wanted the epidural. It took
about 30 minutes for the anesthesiologist to get to me and I was having
really bad contractions that whole time. I kind of felt like her head was
moving into the birth canal, but I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything.
While I was getting the epidural, I was falling asleep so I thought I would
be able to take a nap after that, but when the doctor came in 5 minutes
after I had the epi and checked me, he said I was complete and he would
be back in 15 minutes to start pushing! So, the doctor came back in at
12:25am and got ready for me to start pushing. I pushed about 4 times and
the baby came out. When the doctor said, "It's a girl!" I just burst into
tears of joy!! (WE HAD NO IDEA WHAT WE WERE HAVING, AND IT WAS SOOOOO WORTH
THE WAIT TO BE SURPRISED LIKE THAT!)
So, at 12:34am on November 12th, Autumn Leigh was born. She weighed 7 pounds and 1/2 an ounce, was 18 1/2 inches long, has dark blue eyes and light brown/reddish hair. And in my opinion she was and is the most beautiful baby in the world, but then I AM biased!! I would like to mention how great my husband was during the whole thing, too. The most impressive thing he did was to stay by my side after Autumn was born and they took her across the room to weigh and measure her. He stayed next to me and kept telling me "You did a great job!" and "I'm so proud of you!" and "She's gorgeous!" I was so glad that once she was born he didn't just forget about me and leave me to do the rest alone! |

| Birth Story: On the morning of Wednesday October 28, 1998 my husband and I arrived at the hospital at 6:10 A.M. as scheduled to be induced. I had no complications but my midwife had offered to induce me at 39 weeks due to the fact that the baby was ready and so was I and my two other children arrived at 39 weeks and we didn't want this baby to surprise us when my husband was going to be out of town. So, up I went after being checked in. I went to room 27 and got undressed and into the bed. this was all new to me because it was the first time I've been induced. I was not having any contractions but was already dilated to 2 cm and was 75% effaced. The baby was at -2 station. The nurse began a pitocin drip at approx. 7:15 A.M. in a very small amount and I was hooked up to external fetal monitors. At 8:45 A.M. the contractions were slightly bothersome but not terrible and I needed to use the restroom. So, I got out of bed and stood up and SURPRISE, I have clear fluid running down my leg!!!! My water has never broken with the other two children so I wasn't sure what this was, but come to find out, it was my water. My cervix went to 3 cm and 80% effaced. At approx. 10:00 A.M. I asked for an epidural even though the contractions still weren't so bad. After I got the epidural we waited and waited and waited. The nurses changed shifts and Dawn, my new nurse, gradually increased my pitocin until it was eventually "maxed out" at 3:00 P.M. At 3:00 P.M. I was still 3 cm and 90% effaced. At approx. 3:15 P.M. my nurse came in and said that it appeared as though she was seeing some fetal head compression from her monitor at the nurses station. So she checked me and much to our surprise I was 10 cm!!!! She called (on her cell phone) the midwife down the hall and filled her in on what was happening with me. She proceeded to complete her setup for the birth while she waited for Betsy (midwife) to appear. Only a few minutes went by and I felt the baby coming down. I told her and she called Betsy again. She was in another room with a mother who was pushing. My nurse Dawn told them to hurry up and come because she didn't want to end up delivering the baby herself. I was not pushing and everyone figured that they had some time, I guess. Not a few more minutes go by and the nurse, Dawn sees Samantha's head coming out (all this time I am not pushing at all). Dawn is freaking out at this point because it's just me, my husband Bill, and her in the room. She throws a plasic sheet under my butt and tells me to be sure I'm not pushing, which of course I'm like, "I'm NOT pushing". Just at that moment Betsy comes RUNNING in with another nurse and they're all totally "losing it". Everybody is saying, "Don't push, don't push". Dawn says, "She's NOT pushing!" We can't stop it from happening. Betsy has one glove on and she's holding the baby from coming out any more from the top of the baby's head while the other nurse is putting her other glove on for her. Then Betsy lets the baby come out and she comes out really fast! Samantha must have heard us all laughing and fussing because when Betsy looked down at her face the baby was looking up at her, eyes wide-open!!!! We all laughed and couldn't believe how alert she was. She was covered in thick vernix. I delivered the placenta, Bill cut the cord, and I was cleaned off. No tears, no cuts, no stitches!!!! And off, like a flash, went Betsy to deliver the other mother's baby down the hall. Samantha's apgars were 9 and then 10. She weighed 6 lbs. 14.6 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. She was 39 weeks 1 day. A beautiful gorgeous baby! Time of birth was 3:30 P.M. I breastfed her for the first time at 4:00 P.M. and she latched on like an expert and hasn't slowed down since. She's an excellent baby, an absolute joy, she's a great sleeper and we're so glad to have her now. Our son Danny (age 5 1/2) and daughter Sarah (age 2 1/2) are also thrilled and love her tremendously. Welcome Samantha Celine Marcus!!!! |

| Birth Story: Had an appt with the midwife on December
3 where in she stripped my membranes hoping that might move things along
alittle bit. Boy did it, was just slightly crampy at first and that lasted
pretty much all night but I was able to sleep so I took advantage
of it. So glad I did because when I got up on Friday morning, it hit and
it hit HARD! All of a sudden I found myself scrambling to get everything
and everyone ready to make it to the hospital in fear I wouldnt make it
in time. Contractions seemed pretty close and were very intense from
the moment I got out of bed and I was already feeling pressure in my
bottom. Finally got our son to the babysitters and off we headed on the
drive from hell, LOL! My poor DH was trying to make it there quickly
because of all the moaning I was doing but I kept yelling at him to slow
down, it seemed like even going
35 miles an hour was making me so sick and nauseous I felt as if I would throw up if we werent going at a snails pace but at the same time I wanted to get there fast, talk about your inner conflicts, LOL! Anyway we made it there around 11ish I think and by then I was already 6 centimeters which I was so greatful for, if I had gotten there and had only been still at 2 I probably would have gone berserk! But the pain was terrible at this point, so much harder and more intense than it was with my son. We tried the jacuzzi, which was nice....for the between contractions but didnt help much during. So went back to room and got some nubain shot, all that did was make me dopey and helped me to sleep between contractions but again, during them did nothing. I was begging for something more like an epidural but by that point I had already made it to 10 centimeters so it was too late...ARGH! Oh well, pushing starts and so does my whining. I must have been the wimpiest and worst patient my poor midwife had ever had. Not even 10 minutes into pushing was I begging for a cesarean and screaming how I couldnt do it and I was scared and yada yada yada. I was so scared but of what exactly I couldnt tell you, probably the idea of the unknown of what would happen, I dont honestly know, all I know is I was scared....BAD! WE tried the birthing stool at first for pushing, I didnt like it so we moved to squatting on the bed, cant say I liked that either but it did get the job done...albeit almost 3 and a half hours later, which was much longer than I had pushed with my son (who ended up a csection) but I finally did it. Never would have been able to if it wasnt for my midwife being so reassuring and supportive because I wanted so badly to just give up but she and my DH wouldnt let me, and as much as it hurt and all that, I'm glad we VBACed, for one because now I know I CAN do it, and two I didnt want to be away from my other son for any longer than I had to. Not to mention when MAtthew did finally slip out, the feeling I got when the midwife placed him on my stomach right away, I cant explain it but it was like a rush of emotions! I'll never forget it. ALl along I was so sure he was a girl, but I wasnt the least bit disappointed I was wrong. I just fell in love instantly when I held him and I still didnt even know at that point what he was, I didnt care or even think about it, all I knew was he was mine and that was all that mattered. His brother is completely in love with him too, when DH brought him to visit us in the hospital the first thing he did when he saw Matthew was to try to take him from me and say "Awww, my sweet baby"! I think they're definetly going to be inseparable. |

| Birth Story: I had to have a c-section since Wade
was estimated to weigh about 10 lbs. He was that far from it. Dr still
had to use a vaccuum to help get him out even though I had a c-section
due to the fact that his head was 15". So now he has a bruise on his head
from the vaccuum, but he is still perfect as can be.
He came here with a head full of brown hair and dark (almost black) eyes. Everyone says that he looks like me. I guess this good since his big brother looks exactly like DH. Good luck to everyone!! |

| Birth Story: We went to the hospital at 10:30am
on Monday for a 1:30pm scheduled c-section. It only took the
nurse about an hour to complete all the pre-stuff, so I had a long wait. There were three ladies that were in the midst of delivering, so I had to wait till 3pm to actually go into the c-section OR. The spinal was put in and things started going fast. I didn't feel anything till the repair started. My baby son was born at 3:07, 8lbs and 5oz, 20 inches long. His first sounds were like Donald Duck because of the mucus in his throat. It was so exciting. He scored 9 and 9 on the Apgar scores. They completed my tubal and closure by 4pm. I had had some nausea and a weird, deep pain sensation just before they stitched me up. The nurses were so great and took wonderful care of me. I was given something in my IV for both feelings so after that I didn't feel too bad. I was wheeled to the LDR room for recovery. They attached a demerol pump to my IV and the nurses said "Here's your friend" handing me the hand button. It was funny, but I used it. The next two days were pretty painful and hard. I was breastfeeding and was doing pretty well. The baby started putting a slant on my nipples after sucking awhile that began to get sore. The lactation consultant told me to always swap up positions to keep that from getting any more sore than it was already. I started running a fever of 101, but it would break after taking something over and over. I was sent home on Wednesday evening. The rest of the week has been tiring, no sleep, but just the greatest! My husband and I have had a ball taking care of our son. He's starting to grin and be really alert. |

| Birth Story: = My water broke Friday Oct 16. I waited until Saturday Oct 17 to go to L&D as I did not realize that this is what had happened. During internal it was realized I was not dialated, the head not engaged and the cervix long and hard. So we had to schedule a c section (my third). Baby was born breach! What a surprise. Was also told the uterus wall was so thin it would've ruptured under the pressure of labour so it was a good thing I didn't have contractions or any other signs of labour! She's just beautiful and her older brother and sister are both thrilled as are her mom and dad! |

| Birth Story: I woke up on Thursday the 12th and
thought maybe my water had broke.I wasn’t sure because my underwear were
just a little wet so I decided to hold off calling the doctor. The same
thing happened with my first son, and I knew for sure within an hour or
so of waking so I figured I’d do the same this time. After talking to my
cousin a while she convinced me to call the doc and see what they had to
say. She’s had 3 already and knows how important it is to get to the hospital
if water breaking is the case.I called around noon told the doc what had
happened. She said just to be on the safe side side go to labor and delivery. She
told me she would do a litmus paper test to check for amniotic fluid and
it would only take a minute.
My underwear had been staying dry so I decided to wait a little longer and give it a chance.Plus I didn’t want to leave my son just yet being that it might be the last time it was just us.Finally around 3pm I left for the hospital.I was now convinced I was wrong.I had been dry for hours and felt just fine.I called John at work to let him know what was going on but before I could even say anything he informed me that his boss had just been fired and he had an important meeting in the morning with some gentlemaen from Japan that couldn’t be missed so I better not go into labor tonight!HAHA! I told him of the situation and not to worry because I was sure everything was still intact and even if it wasn’t he hadn’t planned on being there for delivery anyway. He doesn’t handle pain and blood very well and I am completely understanding of this.My best friend and my cousin were my labor partners so everything was still under control.I left my son with my mom and off I went. I told the doc that I was sure I had been mistaken and to hurry and get this over with because I had to be at work at 5pm.She did the litmus test and it was positive so she said she’d do a slide test to be sure and she’d be back in a minute. She came back and said ”I think you’ll be glad you came in. Your water broke.” I was admitted and started making the calls. My best friend showed up and we started watching Gone With The Wind around 7pm.John showed up around 8 and we decided he should go home with DS and get some rest since he had to be at work in the morning.I wasn’t progressing with contractions so I was given Pitocin around 8pm.At about 11 I got the epidural.Around 2am Vivian and I both fell asleep. They watch the monitor from the nurses station so we weren’t disturbed until 5am.The nurse came in to check on me and said “Do you want to know what color the babies hair is?”I almost died! His head was coming out! John had decided at the last minute that he did want to be there after all.He called my mom and made plans for her to come to the house when the call came and he would leave the house as soon as she arrived.Luckily my mom lives 5 minutes from us and we’re 5 minutes from the hospital. I hurried and called my mom and John.My mom raced to my house and John raced to the hospital. The nurse said tell him to hurry! They assured me we could wait a few before actively pushing but it wasn’t going to be long.He made it in the nick of time.Just as he walked in the room they started tearing down the bed and setting up the delivery equipment.About two minutes later I started pushing and half an hour later we had Scott Robin! What a joy!Labor was a cinch this time! The doctor even had me pull him out once his head and shoulders cleared!I couldn’t believe it.She said grab him Kellie.I was like ‘what?’ But I grabbed him and pulled him up on my belly then watched Vivian cut the cord.(eww).John would have passed out if he had to cut it.He even left for about 3 minutes during pushing because he thought he was done for!Poor guy.Now I know why men don’t have babies! Scott weighed in at 7# 5ozs and was 19” long.He has a ton of dark hair that already needs a trim!Big brother Robert adores him(whew!) I hope everyones labor can go as easily as mine did this time.Best of luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to all the new mommies. Kellie Due 11-19 delivered 11-13

| Birth Story: I went to the hospital on Nov. 13 to be induced and started Pitocin at 7:30 AM. After a couple of hours I complained that labor was taking too long. They broke my water, an hour later I recieved an epidural and 40 minutes after had an incredible urge to push. I pushed for 6 contractions and watched as Chloe entered the world, beautiful and perfectly healthy. She has dark hair, and blue eyes, although they appear to be turning color already. | Birth Story: I went into actual labor after many
false labors on the morning of Dec. 4. By this time, i felt like my baby
was never going to arrive! We went into the hospital about 6 am, and were
there for about 3 hours. The nurses couldn't find the right spot to place
the monitor so my contractions would read, but I sure was having them!
Anyhow, i was told I was only 1-2 cent. and 75% effaced. They said I could
only be admitted if I went to 3 cent. Then the dr. came in and proceeded
to strip my membranes for the 2nd time in 3 days with the hope of progressing
my labor. Either way, I was set to begin induction Dec. 7 at 7 am. We went
home where I tried to sleep, but by that night, my contractions were oming
every
3 mins. and hurt so bad I was in tears. I also had them when I moved or
changed positions, so I would actually try to sit still so I wouldn't cause
them to happen! (funny how you think when you're in pain)
We arrived at the hospital about 8 pm. They hooked me up to the monitors, and once again, the contractions weren't measuring right. But when they did an internal, I was 4 cent. and 90% effaced, so I was admitted. After a failed IV attempt, and a failed attempt at drawing blood (my veins were so small thy kept collapsing) I finally got hooked up. I requested an epidural when I reached 5 cent. and the nurse told the dr. that was my pain medication choice. The dr. came down about an hour later and found me to be at 5 cent. and 100% and at 0 station. I was given stadol for the pain and told I wouldn't need the epidural because I was breathing so well through my contractions (good thing i was well drugged, never had the oppurtunity to give them a piece of my mind). The dr. broke my water when I was at 7 cent. in order to insert a fetal monitor into the baby's scalp because his heartbeat became erratic through my contractions. I was placed on oxygen, but when I had contractions I kept ripping it off my face because I was hyperventilating. Finally, after telling the dr. I had to push, he checked and told me I was complete and to push (this was about 2 am). I pushed butcould not get the babies head underneath the pelvis, so the dr. used vacuum extraction. My son came into the world screaming at 243 am on Dec. 5. He had a full head of long, dark hair (which has now lightened to auburn) and was so tiny! I couldn't hold him right away, I was too tired and drugged. I finally held him about 4 am. He was 7 lbs. 4.6 oz, 20 1/2 in. long. his apgars were 9/9. i have never felt so much love before giving birth to this tiny and precious miracle! I thank God every day forr giving me this beautiful bundle of blue to treasure for the rest of my life. |

| Birth Story: I was due on 11/26/98 (Thanksgiving).
My pregnancy was for the most part normal without any major concerns. Early
Thursday morning (10/29) I woke at 1:00 AM to make one of my many bathroom
trips. I returned to bed and couldn't fall asleep right away. I realized
the baby wasn't moving. At first, I didn't think it too unusual. Maybe
she just wasn't awake. I went downstairs and ate something, waited, still
nothing. I went back downstairs and drank fruit juice, still nothing. At
4 AM I called my doctor. She gave me the option to come to the hospital
or wait until the office opened in a few hours and they would do a NST.
I decided to go to the hospital. At the hospital I was put on the monitor
and immediately they found a good heart rate. Then I had a contraction.
It was a painless contraction that I have had off and on throughout the
last few weeks which I assumed were BH's. The monitor showed that when
the contraction hit the baby's heart rate dropped dramatically!
Within seconds a flurry of people were coming in to observe, they made me lay on my side, and an ultrasound was brought in. The doctor made one quick scan with the u/s and next thing I know I'm being told the baby had to come out now. She was in distress and most of the fluid was gone. I don't remember my water breaking. I couldn't believe this was happening. I thought I would come to the hospital be told everthing was fine and go home. I was quickly wheeled to labor and delivery. People were everywhere. I had questions and needles coming at me left and right. DH was in the waiting room with our 4 year old daughter because we didn't have time to have someone watch her. He called his brother to come and pick her up so he could be with me. Within minutes I was prepped and the procedure began. At 5:35 AM Jillian was born. She scored a 6 at her one minute apgar and a 9 at her 5 minute. However, she was too small for her gestation (36 weeks), she only weighed 3lbs, 15oz. She was placed in NICU for this reason. !DH never made it into delivery so fast. Jillian was stayed in NICU for 5 days Her platelet count was low and they tested her to try to determine the reason for the low birth weight. The end result was that the cord had a vascular malformation that did not allow all the nutrients to get to her from the placenta. Everyone kept telling my how lucky I was and couldn't believe that I was so in tune with her movement that I noticed something at 1 AM. They don't know how much time she would have had -minutes, days, weeks. The doctors say Jillian will develop normally and she should not be affected by the problems that occured in the womb. I'm just glad I have a beautiful healthy little girl.- |

would've been a basket case! Ok - now on with the story and I'll try to
make it make sense (sorry it's a bit long-ish) :) We were scheduled to begin induction at 8:00 am
on Friday morning. We got to the hospital and settled in, knowing we were

Couple hours went by, another exam and still no dilation, although I was effacing just a bit. We watched a video and tried to be patient. Around 4:30p the contractions started coming on

| Birth Story: She was born exactly 4 weeks early. We had to stay at the hospital for 4 days, but we finally got to take her home on Sunday! She is doing great. At first she didn't know how to suck, but the wonderful nurses at the hospital taught her how, and now I am successfully breastfeeding her. My water had broken on Wednesday night at about 5:20 p.m. In the car on the way to the hospital my contractions started at about 5 min. apart. By the time we got there, they were about 4 min. apart, and when the resident checked me, I was dilated to about 3 cm. They wouldn't check me after that until I was "more uncomfortable" because they didn't want to risk infection. By 12:30 a.m. I was asking for Stadol, so they gave me a dose, and things began to progress fairly quickly. I was 5 cm when they checked me for the Stadol. I was 8 cm within an hour, I went to 10 in about 10 mins after that. She came out with about a half an hour of pushing. Now we have a beautiful baby girl. I guess my dream was right. I thought that she was a boy all along, but I had a dream that she was a girl. Now she is almost a week old, and DH and I are just trying to get everything together. We were not expecting her so soon! But we are glad she is here, she is so beautiful and precious. As I write this I look down at her beautiful little face as she lays in my arms sleeping peacefully... |

| Birth Story: On Sunday the 8th of November I started
having a "bloody show" I was not worried at all. I got really
excited though. On Monday the 9th I woke up and noticed that I was
bleeding like the last couple of days of my period. I called the
labor and delivery at the hospital and asked them if I should be concerned.
They checked me out and discovered that I was having contractions every
4-6 minutes. Also I was dilated to almost 5 cm. They called
Dr. Barnett and asked him if he wanted to admit me and he said yes.
We had brought my stuff just in case and we were in total shock when we
realized that we would be having our baby today. They got me in a
delivery room at 7:00 a.m. Dr. Barnett came in around 8:00 and broke
my water. He discovered that the baby had a b.m. and that we would
have to call in the special care nursery before delivery so that they could
be standing by. He left orders with the nurse to add pictosin if
I had not started having more contractions and progressing. Of course
I did not change any. So they added pictosin to my IV drip.
I slowly began to dilate throughout the day. Around 11:00 a.m. I
could not take the pain anymore so I had my epidural. My blood pressure
started dropping and they had a hard time getting me stabilized. The baby
thankfully never faltered. Her heart beat was strong the whole time.
They finally got me stabalized and they then informed me that I was not
going to be able to have the full epidural. They would give me bolster
shots to help with the pain but they would not block but a small portion
of the pain.
Around 6:00 I started having major pain. I asked for another bolster. At around 7:00-7:30 they gave me a bolster and I started pushing. I pushed as hard as I physically could for 45 minutes to an hour. Then they called the doctor in because I could not get her any farther throug the birth canal. The doctor came in and asked the nurse if he thought I could push for 1-2 more hours. She told him no way. I had pushed with every ounce of strength for the first hour and that I couldn't push much more. So he told her to get his staff and he was going to use forceps to turn the baby. She was head down but face up looking sideways. Meanwhile my epidural was about completely gone. 8 people rushed in the room to assist him and the special care nursery came in to take care of Victoria. He put the forceps in and turned her then snipped me because her head could not come out. I then pushed 3-4 times and she was born. They put their fingers in her throat so she could not cry and they immediately suctioned her out and then she started to cry. She has an awesome pair of lungs. I could not believe how loud she was. She scored 9/9 on her apgars. She weighed 7lbs and 12.5 oz and was 18.5 inches long. She is so cute. While they were helping me deliver the placenta they had a hard time getting the umbilical chord out and they could not get the placenta to budge. Finally it did but that was the weirdest feeling I have ever had. While using the forceps he ripped me a little and then he had to stich me about 10 times. I can not believe how cut up I am. During recovery I had to get up and try to pee. I couldn't so they were going to catheter me again. Once they did they discovered that I had a traumatized bladder due to the use of the forceps and I had to have a catheter in for 2 days. Finally I got to come home!!!!! I am feeling much better except for a major lack of sleep. I am very thankful that my mom had been able to stay with me. She is leaving Saturday and I am starting to cry just thinking about it. I wanted to breast feed more than anything in the world but it is not working out. I am not producing enough milk to feed her and she is not patient enough for my milk to let down even using heat and breast massage. I have cried for almost a week now. I have never been so dissapointed over anything in all of my life. I knew that it would be hard to do but I never dreamed that it wouldn't work out. My heart is just breaking thinking about all I have done to make this work and that none of it is paying off. I have pumped with a lactina pump and have been able to give her 9 days worth of milk but I am having to supplement with formula because she wants to eat 4-5 oz of milk and I am only producing 2oz at a sitting no matter how often I pump. Victoria's color is great. She is gaining weight and she seems to be happy most of the time. |

| Birth Story: My doctor broke my water at 8:30 am and began the pitocin drip at 9:30 am. Around 5:30, dilated to 6, I asked for an epidural. I fell in love with the "epidural man" as he is called. He was wonderful! I started pushing at 7:10 pm and at 9:00 pm, with the help of the doctor and his cute little suction cup, Zackary Cole Murphy was born weighing 8 lbs 15.9 ounces (yes, I say 9 lbs!)and 20.5 inches long. My doctor was shocked at his size! Zack looks just like his Daddy and has made us the happiest we've ever been, happier than we could have ever imagined. My world now revolves around his every breath. |

| Birth Story: After struggling with chronic Braxton-Hicks
for several days, I went in for my 38.5 week
appointment. My dr. said if he could find a reason he would induce, but ofcourse, there was no reason to be found. We talked a bit and DH and I expressed our concern for the size of the baby and the number of contractions I was having. Dr.M. finally agreed to induce, but not before 39 weeks which would mean Thursday, November 19. We went in to the hospital at 9:30am and they did all the preliminary checking. My Dr. said I was 2-3cms. and at 10:30am gave the "ok" to begin the pitocin. Right away my nurse, Chris, noticed that the babies heartrate was dragging. It would take rather large dips and be slow to pick-up. After an hour and several position changes, she called my dr. who recommended an OB consult. by another dr. At noon, Dr.E. came in and decided to break my water. He then put an internal monitor on the babies head. After a few minutes, he gave the "Ok" to again begin the pitocin. Every 20 mins. the pitocin was raised a notch, but ctxs. were not any where being regular. At 1pm, I had to make a "potty" stop. While on the potty, I had a ctx., pee-ed, and then another ctx. My dr. came into my room and determined, I was in real labor. After examining me he said I was 4-5cms. and expected baby in an hour or so. We discussed pain meds. and he said if I wanted anything, this was the time to do it...I would only have time for one dose. I wasn't sure if labor would get any more painful, but just in case, I asked for Nubain. Dr.M. left, but said he'd be staying in the hospital. Chris went and mixed the Nubain and administered it. Chris, DH and I were discussing whether it really helped with the pain or just spaced a person out. A ctx. hit and I determined it just spaced a person out but announced,"Chris, things are changing!" She did an internal exam (that actually felt good...infact, I jokingly asked her to keep her hand 'in there'...the counter pressure was great!) She said," No, nothings changing....Oh my gosh...the baby just dropped to my finger!" She ran out of the room and yelled down the hall,"Linda, she just went from 4 to complete in ONE MINUTE!" Another ctx. and I called Chris,"Chris, I have to push!" She ran back in the room and began easing the baby's head out. Dr.M.(who informed us he had just ordered his lunch and sat down with a paper) came literally running in(I can remember his heavy breathing). Two more pushes and out came our baby. She was blue and not crying. Dr.M began massaging her for what seemed an eternity, verified her sex, cut her cord and handed her to Linda and Chris to continue massaging her. After 5 minutes (I only know the amount of time because they announced the second apgar score..9) she was pink and sqwauking. Everyone relaxed and then they found it; she had a "true knot" in her umbilical cord. The side of the placenta was fat and healthy, then the knot the side of the baby was shrivelled. We learned that with every ctx. whether B.H. or the real thing, the knot grew tighter and tighter. It was just a matter of time before her oxygen, bl ood and food supply was cut off and she would have died in utereo without anyone knowing what happened. Abigail Hope was due on Thanksgiving Day. Had Dr.M not been prompted to induce early, our holidays may very well have taken on a different spirit. Instead, we are rejoicing over God's perfect timing in Abigail's life. That's how God works... even before we know we need Him...He is already acting on our behalf. Psalm 139 |

| Birth Story: = My
Mom had just arrived from Pennsylvania the afternoon of Tuesday, October
13th. She told me that I could have the baby any time now, since she was
here now to help me. Well, I didn't think would be the next day! Desiree
wasn't due until November 1, but my doctor felt she would be early. The
doctor was going to induce me if my blood pressure would not go down. I
had been on bedrest for almost 1 month. I was going to make Barbalarb's
pumpkin bread recipe on Wednesday morning (using the applesauce as a substitute
- which is wonderful I might add!) But Tuesday evening at 10 pm, I had
the urge to make the pumpkin bread. So I made it, let it cool and then
had 2 pieces before I went to bed. It is delicious!
I had cramps most of the night and couldn't sleep (the cramps were not from the pumpkin bread!!). I was awake every 1-2 hours. By morning, I had told my husband that the baby had dropped because she was very low in my pelvis. Around 7 am, Mom and I had just sat down to eat some pumpkin bread and drink our morning coffee. I got up to feed my cat Harley, and when I bent over to fill his bowl, my waters broke! I never did loose my mucous plug that I was aware of. My husband had just left for work at 6:30 am, so I had my mom page him and she told him to get back home because my waters had broken. My husband was home by 7:30 am. My OB's office asked if I was having any contractions, and I told them I was not. (It turned out that I guess I was having contractions all night, and that's why I couldn't sleep!) I didn't know I was actually having them because this is my first child, and I really had no idea what to expect. I started having regular contractions by 7:45 am. We arrived at the hospital at 8:15 am. They gave me a pitocin IV and I started to have contractions every 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Around noon, I had to ask for some pain medicine because the contractions were getting more intense. At 3:30 pm, I was dilated only to 3 or 4 cm, but I had asked for an epidural because I was having terrible "back labor". After I received the epidural, I couldn't even feel the contractions and the pain in my back was much better. That only lasted a short while, because at 5:00 pm, my back starting hurting again and I asked for the anesthesiologist to increase the epidural. He said he wouldn't do that until my doctor examined me again because he thought I was fully dilated and he didn't was to slow down the delivery. My doctor told him to go ahead and increase my epidural, so he did. I was then already fully dilated and began pushing. I pushed for about 1 1/2 hours, but had to turn on my left side because I was not having much success in having little Desiree turn. When I turned, so did Desiree, and she was born at 6:28 pm. She has brown hair, and weighed 6 lb, 10 oz. and was 20 inches at birth. I did have a small tear which required 2 stitches. She scored a 9 at the 1 minute APGAR and also a 9 at 5 minute APGAR. Mom and Dear husband Kevin were with me the entire time. I couldn't have done it without their support and love. About 3 hours after Desiree was born, Kevin brought me flowers with a card which read, "Thank you Denise for a perfect baby girl, Desiree". What he said on that card was worth more to me than any gift he could have given. We have been truly blessed! Thank you all for your best wishes on the birth of our perfect little girl. I've only had about 8 hours of sleep in total since her birth, but she is TRULY WORTH IT ALL! God Bless you all on the deliveries of your bundles of joy! |

| Birth Story: My water broke at 7:00 am on the
21st. I didn't know that is what happened at first because my
doctor told me 3 days before that I would probably go full term or even late. (We then were scheduled to induce on 12/1). I went to the hospital around 11 am and my contractions soon started coming every 2 min. The nurse examined me and I was dialated to 1 cm. By 6pm I was put on pitocin because I was still only at 1cm. The nurse and doctor kept checking me and upping my drip. By 7:45 the doctor manually stretched me 3 cm. I remained dialated at 4cm. until 1:30 am. My doctor finally decided to do a C-Section and Zane was born at 2:17 am. While I was in labor we had the tv on. Saturday
night live came on and the cheerleaders skit came on. They

| Birth Story: I had BH Wed night, the only way
they would stop was to be up and walking around, so no sleep for me Wed.
By Thurs morning the contractions were real. By lunchtime they were
under 5 mins for over an hour so the Dr. said to go to the hospital.
We got there and all hooked up to the monitors and
the contractions slowed down. I really got depressed when the Dr. came in and said what is going on, you're only one cm. He did an internal and his hand broke my water, so at least I knew they wouldn't send me home. Contractions picked up and really started to hurt. They gave me pitocin, which also made more pain for me, so I asked for an epidural. So when I was 5cm the gave me a spinal/epidural combination. It was great. I had to be told when I was having a contraction. We watched some TV. During Friends, the nurse came in and watched with us. Near the end, the Dr. came back to check my progress and said oh my gosh you're complete. He ran out to change, we finished watching Friends, then started pushing. |

| Birth Story: Kyle was just a little late! We almost had to be induced. But when we went for the induction - I had already gone into labor. Thank goodness! The labor wasn't too bad. We checked into the hospital at about midnight. My water broke at 12:45am and the contractions got hard quick. At about 5am I finally got an epidural - I was only at 3cm at the time. But two hours later, I was at 10 and ready to go! I guess that epi must've relaxed me, huh? Anyway, after about 40 minutes of pushing, Kyle made his appearance! I'm ready to do it again already! |
