Birth Story: At 1:30 A.M. on October 14th I woke up to my water breaking.  I called L&D and informed them that I would be coming in and made sure it would be okay if I took a shower first.  We arrived about an hour later, I was having contractions but they stopped an hour later.  At 11:00 A.M. they decided to add pitocin and a few hours later the contractions were becoming regular.  At aprox. 6pm the nurse came in and said the baby's heart rate was becoming to low with each contraction and a doctor would be in to check.  The doctor did not come in until 7:00, when he checked he said the placenta was in front of the baby.  An emergency C-section was done and Carolyn was born at 7:22pm.

Birth Story: I was due 11/12, so my doctor decided to induce me on 11/18, because the baby was going to be big and it was my doctor's day on call, so it worked out well.

We went to the hospital at 7 am and started Pitocin around 9:15. About 2 hours later (although memory is hazy now!)contractions were about 2 1/2 minutes apart and lasting 60 seconds. They were strong and painful, but I didn't complain, because I thought I had no choice! Because of pain, my blood pressure went up, so they decided I should stay in bed so of course pain was worse. By about 1:00 I wanted to be checked so I could decide on pain relief, and unfortunately I was only about 2 cm dilated (was 1 cm to start).

My doctor came in an hour later and broke my water--which was a big relief--I had lots of fluid, which was keeping baby from descending, and made pressure of contractions much greater. She also inserted an internal moniter, and shortly after that I got an epidural, which was wonderful!!!After about 6 hours more, they checked me and I was fully dilated, and feeling fine. My epidural was reduced and it was time to push. Pushing lasted about 2 hours and was pretty casual. My husband and my labor nurse and occasionally the resident helped hold my legs up, although mostly I did it as people came and went. It was hard work, and eventually at 11:30 pm Victoria Dale was born (although we didn't know for sure what we would name her until 1 1/2 days later!). Her middle name is for my dad, Edward Dale Krahling, who died October 2nd this year.

We started nursing that night, and she roomed in with us. She weighed 9 lbs, 13 oz (a big girl!) and was 21 3/4 inches, and of course, was incredibly beautiful...:-)

Had to have an episiotomy, and recovery hurt more than I expected ( I don't think anyone warns you), but I'm feeling good. The day after she was born, my body ached liked crazy--it took me a while to figure out it was from pushing for 2 hours!

Tori is doing great and we're looking forward to joining you all in the playgroup. Best wishes to all still waiting to deliver!!

Stephanie Renee Weight  =  7
ounces  =  3
Length  =  20 1/4"
Time  =  10:52, am

Birth Story: She was born on Saturday, November 14, at 10:52 a.m., with a relatively easy labor and delivery! (Like her older sister Jenny, she was  born 4 days before her due date!)

 I was having regular contractions all day Friday, and began timing them around 9 that evening and  they were about 5 minutes apart while I finished up the nesting - straightening up Jenny's toys,  dishes, cleaning off our desk, etc..., and I was about 5 minutes away from calling the doctor and  waking up my napping husband, when I decided to take some things down to the basement. The  gate didn't fasten, so I shut the basement door, and while downstairs, I heard the door open and  my 22 month old screaming - she had figured out (for the very first time) how to open up a door,  and was about to begin falling down the stairs from the landing - so I ran up the stairs and caught  her on the first step. She was fine but I was extremely sore and the contractions totally stopped. I  ate a candy bar to get Stephie moving again because I was sore all over and pretty worried. About 5 minutes later, she started kicking up a storm, so I knew she was okay... but the contractions didn't start back up for a while. I laid down on the couch with Jenny and sometime in the middle of the night I thought I was feeling contractions again - but it also might have been where I pulled all my muscles running up the steps. About 4:15, my DH Chris came in to see what was going on because we both thought we would be going to the hospital that evening - well, we talked for a few minutes and he went back to bed... I went in there with him and starting
 feeling definite contraction pains. At 4:40, I started timing and they were three minutes apart! We both got up and showered and exactly one hour later, I called the doctor, got the okay to go to hospital, and we drove Jenny to my parents' house. At 6:08 a.m., I checked into the hospital and by the time they checked me at 7:30, I was around 5 cm and in pain. At 8:30, the anesthesiologist finally got there to give me my epidural. (My husband was going out to find her because the pain was getting so intense and I was extremely miserable - and the nurse had told us at 8 that she was on her way to our room...) Anyway, around 8:50, the pain had subsided, which was good because the contractions were right on top of each other. At 9:30, I was at 7 cm. The doctor came in around 10:30 and said she would check me in a few minutes and break my water for me. About 10:40, I was at 10 cm and fully effaced; the doctor broke my water and they started getting the room ready. A few minutes later, as they were putting my legs in the stirrups, the nurse saw the baby's head coming out - just from my natural breathing, so we started to push and 2 pushes later, at 10:52 a.m., Stephanie Renee was born! She scored an 8 and 9 on her APGAR tests and she weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, with a length of 20 1/4 inches. (Pretty good for a baby who was way too small five short weeks ago! - The Lord really answered all our prayers for her to grow during her last weeks in utero!!!)...

 Anyway, she is nursing well, and big sister Jenny has adjusted much better than we expected!!! We are so thankful to have a second healthy daughter and I am glad I was able to share my pregnany with everyone on this board. It is amazing when we stop and think about all the scares we had this pregnancy (including symptons of early miscarriage right after we found out we were pregnant to the low birth weight problems at the end of September) and how God answered each of our prayers and protected us and the baby from everything! Praise the Lord for our happy, healthy little girl!!!

Birth Story: Emilie was born after 36 hours of back labor; she was posterior until about an hour before she was born!  I had her in a birth center, so I didn't have any drugs; I didn't know I had the ability to do something like that, but I did.  The whole experience was amazing.

Birth Story: I went to the doctor on 11/9 for my 39 week check-up.  No change, still 1-2 cm dilated and baby head down.  I felt kind anxious the whole day though.  Had lots of energy that evening, nearly drove DH nuts!LOL!  Went to bed, and was restless as usual.  Got up at 3AM for one of the multiple potty breaks, everything seemed normal. Started getting back into bed and bingo, my water broke!!  I woke hubby and then showered and headed over to the hospital.

We arrived at about 5:30AM.  When the nurse checked me, I was still only 1-2 cm.  I had been having contractions for about 1 hour at that point, and they were getting more frequent, but still bearable. Doctor didn't come in until around 9AM, the hospital was a zoo, and babies were arriving like crazy!  When my doctor checked me I was still only 1-2cm, so he started mumbling about pitocin, but then asked the nurse for the ultrasound machine.  I didn't get too nervous at his request, because he looked calm.  Anyway, what my doctor suspected was that the baby had flipped over since the day before and was now breech...he was right.  So, he schedule me for a c-section.  I had to wait until noon, because there were two other unplanned c-sections ahead of me.  The doctor thinks Sydney broke my water when she turned over to breech position!  While I was waiting for my c-section, my contractions progressed!  Thank God for the epidural at Noon!  My c-section went great. I had no complications and recovered quickly. My DH stayed with me for the c-section and was very comforting! I was walking around by the next morning.  Hubby is totally smitten with the little angel!  She already has him wrapped around her little finger...it's really sweet! We are all doing great now!  Sydney is thriving and just weighed in at 10lbs, 12oz. at her 6 week checkup!-

Birth Story: Mark arrived naturally on the day I was scheduled to be induced.  He was posterior and put me through 40 hours of VERY painful back labour, but of course it was all worth it!  He's beautiful and perfect and has a full head of light brown hair that's about an inch-and-a-half long.  It's unbelieveable how time consuming it all is, but I've finally managed to find a few minutes to post to the board!  Who knows when I will find the time to actually update Mark's homepage!  I hope all those still waiting don't have to wait too much longer!

Birth Story: I woke up at 5:00am with really uncomfortable cramps - like monthly cramps.  Right as I woke up I felt a trickle of water and when I stood up, it came out fast and I knew it was my water breaking.  So, we got up, made some calls and headed to the hospital.  When they checked me I was onlt a fingertip dilated, so they had me walk for about 30 minutes.  They checked me again and I was at 6 cm.  They put me to bed and the contractions started fast and furious.  I was at 10 amd ready to push in no time at all.  I onkly had to endure the really painful contracts for about an hour - this was tough as they were only 1/2 - 1 minute apart.  Then my "best friend" came in to do the epidural - YEAH.  By this time I was ready to push.  2 hours later, Jackson came screaming into the world just as perfect as he could be.  My entire labor from the time my water broke until they were finished stitching me up (I had to have an episiodomy but also tore to 3rd degree - not to fun) lasted only 8 hours.  It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, recovery has been a little tougher - slower than I ever imagined.  All I can say for those who follow - ENJOY THE SITZ BATH AND USE IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!!
Little Jackson is sitting here on my lap as I type this and I keep stopping to look at my little perfect boy with his daddy's dark hair and blue eyes....what more of a gift could God give me than this?
Also, I have already started to block out parts of this labor experience.....so enjoy the parts that you remember and just relax, breath, and love your babies!!!!!!!!!

Katherine Quint
Weight  =  9

Length  =  21 1/4"
Time  =  3:11, am

Birth Story: A true Daddy's girl, Kate was born on October 31 (DH has been saying since Feb. that he wanted a Halloween  baby). She weighed 9 lbs., 10 oz., was 21-1/4" long and had a 14.5 cm head circumference. She's completely gorgeous.
http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Plains/8606/Kate.htm
The midwife suggested that we induce labor because of Kate's size (she had measured 8 lbs. on a sono the previous week). Thank goodness we did, another week and it would've been a c-section. Thursday (39 weeks), I went in to have gel applied to my cervix to help it dialate. I was 60% effaced and 1 cm dialated at that point.  Friday morning, we returned to the  hospital, where they started the pitocin at 7:45 am. At app. 1 pm, the midwife ruptured my membranes, which helped things along.  After two hours of back labor, my back was spasming enough that I requested an epidural.
Labor was easier after that (what contractions?), but Kate wasn't moving down enough. She'd been sitting so far in front that the midwives finally put a tight binding around my belly to squeeze her further in and down. My belly made an interesting sideshow - no one could believe how much in front I've been carrying. All the nurses kept coming in to see it.
By 1 am, it was time to push (and push, and push). We could see her head for at least an hour before she was born. Kate was coming down, but was almost stuck. I also started tearing at this point, despite the midwife massaging the area (I ended up with a 3rd degree episiotomy). Finally, the midwives (mine, and another in the practice who is completing her studies) called the doctor in and began vacuum extraction. At this point, there were six people delivering: the midwives (one with the vacuum, the other hand delivering), the doctor and a nursery nurse (who were using their arms to push Kate down and out), and my DH and another L&D nurse (who were holding my legs). Soon, I heard someone say "there's the head" and a second later she was on my belly. It was completely and utterly amazing - words can't possibly describe, and I'm sitting here crying just thinking about it.

Birth Story: I had another dr. appt. on Mon. Unfortunately, my bp was continuing to rise (173/115), and they were finding protein in my urine. My dr. decided the advantages to giving baby time to grow and mature were no longer better than the disadvantages of delivering early. He felt the only "cure" at this time was delivery—immediately. We were so unprepared. I was going to pack my bags Sunday, but home high bp readings had kept me in bed. We asked for a couple hours to pack our bags and make arrangements for our son. After taking care of these things, we headed to the hospital. I was panicking. I was only 34 ½ weeks along, and I was worried about the baby’s health after birth. The dr. estimated her birthweight to be about 6 pounds. He doesn’t give steroid injections past 32 to 33 weeks for lung maturity as they have found it is most helpful only earlier on. I had no other options anyway.
     I was only 50 % effaced and not dilated at all. They inserted a disk (called cervadil, I think) to help me dilate. It was inserted at 2:30 PM Mon., and we were told it would take 12 hours to work. Once it was removed, my dr. planned on starting a pitocin drip (something I really wanted to avoid previously but felt was appropriate given the circumstances). They had done the group B strep culture that morning, but the results would not be back in time, so I was given the antibiotics as a precaution. I also was put on a continuous IV drip of magnesium sulfate for the high bp. They were worried that it was so high, I might have seizures. This med. prevents that, BUT I hated it. It gave me a migraine type headache and made me feel somewhat strange (hard to describe), and my muscles were not as well controlled. Unfortunately, this meant I was going have to stay in bed while I waited for the cervadil to work and for the whole labor. I was able to get up to go to the bathroom, but I was so disappointed that my labor was confined to bed. I was on a continuous fetal monitor and had my bp taken every 15 mins.
     The dr. checked in on me around 10:30 PM and found I was already 3 cm dilated. It was a nice surprise. He decided to rupture my membranes to keep things moving. (I had this done w/my son, too. It is totally painless.) After that, my contractions became more intense but still bearable. Dr. checked back again at midnight. I was still 3 cm dilated, so he started a pitocin drip. The intensity of the contractions gradually picked up from there. I almost always had a few minutes between contractions to relax though. At 2AM, the nurse asked if my contractions were tapering off as they were not showing themselves as very intense on the monitor. Actually, they felt very intense to me. I decided maybe labor was stopping or slowing down, and started to consider an IV push of stadol or some such thing. The nurse asked if I wanted to try waiting until 2:30 since I seemed to be coping so well with them. I decided we’d try to wait. She checked me at 2:35 and found I was 8 cm dilated. We were all surprised. My mom was in the waiting room. I told Joe to go tell her of my progress. He was gone only a few minutes (4 or 5 at the most). While he was gone, I had this huge feeling of pressure from out of nowhere. I told the nurse I was going to have to push. She checked me again and found I was completely dilated, effaced, and ready to go. She literally ran to get the dr. who was sleeping a few doors down. He came in with the nurse. Joe came back. I said I had to push right then. The bed had not been pulled apart or anything. I pushed about 2-3 times and witnessed the miracle of Sierra’s birth!!! Sierra came out crying, a wonderful sign of lung maturity, at 2:56 AM Tues., October 6, 1998. She was soooo tiny but perfect. Her apgars were 9 and 9. Her birthweight was underestimated though. She was born at 4 pounds 8 ounces and was 16 ¼ inches long. She looked so small. They put her on my tummy, and my life changed yet again. She was so beautiful!!! They cleaned her up, let us hold her, I got to nurse her, etc. We spent about an hour to get wanted to assess her in the nursery. This tiny little early miracle girl was breathing on her own. They put her in an isolette to help her maintain her temp. as a precaution (because she was even doing that well). They felt she could focus on maintaining/gaining weight exclusively if she didn’t have to divide her energy between trying to stay warm and eating. It turns out that the stress put on her because of my high bp actually helped to mature her lungs. When I delivered the placenta, the dr. found evidence that it was starting to abrupt, so it was such a fortunate thing I delivered then, or we both would have had much more serious concerns.
     Our pediatrician practices out of a different hospital, so we had to take the peds. on call for her care. We had one we really liked and one we didn’t care for as much. No one could tell us how long she’d be there, just that it could be from 4 days to 2 weeks, and the first 24 hours were critical. My bp was not going down after the birth, so I was kept in a special room on the meds. until noon Tues. They didn’t want my meds to go to the baby, so I wasn’t able to nurse her until Wed. That meant she was getting formula and I was expressing my breastmilk and throwing it away. Wed. Sierra was weaned off the isolette and was holding her temp. find. They were now letting me nurse her 5 mins. per breast (no more so she didn’t tire out) and follow it by a bottle of formula to keep her weight up. All babies lose weight at first; it is just more critical w/preemies. We were able to room in w/her all Wed. night into Friday. Fri. I had to go home, and the ped. Shocked us by telling us Sierra could go home, too! What a joy!!! This TINY!!!(and I have never seen any baby smaller) little one was coming home. She is SUCH a fighter! I am already so proud of her. She works so hard. She is not very fussy, and has periods where she is very alert. She is just so beautiful!She only weighed 4 lbs. 5 oz. yesterday, but they felt she was eating well. She goes to her reg. pediatrician today. It will be interesting to see what they say about her and if I have to do anything differently. I am nursing her 5 mins. per side, pumping the rest, and giving her bottles of formula, so most of my day is spent on feeding related activities. Hopefully, once my milk is in and well established, we can nurse exclusively. She is doing just great going back and forth between breast and bottle and between breastmilk and formula.
     DH, Joe, was wonderful. He was a help all through labor and since. All of the nurses said how cute he was because you could just tell how happy and excited he is. Unfortunately, he and my son have developed colds, so they have been staying away from us since we got home. He spent last night writing poetry to/about Sierra. He is so sweet, and I love him dearly. My little guy was so excited to see his sister, too. He loves her dearly already. I still get nervous about having her home and all it will take to help her grow and stay well, but I am thrilled to death to have my family all together.
     I, of course, had no preemie clothes, so my mom and sis went out and bought a few, and Sierra still "swims" in them. She is so precious though. : ) (Gee, do I sound like a doting mommy?! LOL)
     They are going to continue monitoring my bp and feel it will just take a few weeks. I didn’t need an episiotomy this time. I had one very, very small tear. I am a little sore but not bad at all. My ankles/feet are HUGE. I guess even w/normal pregs., there is a redistribution of fluids postpartum that sometimes takes about a week to get rid of. This is normal but slightly exaggerated in my case because of my fluid retention during pregnancy. It is difficult to walk, but I’m doing okay w/it. Actually, I feel so good, I’ve been trying to do everything I did before pregnancy. It’s hard to remember to take it easy.
     I will be sticking around to read all of your birth stories, but I wanted to take the time to personally thank alll of you for your friendship and support during this pregnancy. I value all of you. I have enjoyed getting to know you and share in this special time in our lives. I won’t forget you. While I will be posting some in the playgroup, I’ve decided not to continue as a community leader, but thank you all for making it a wonderful experience here.
     Karen (bigeasy1)…thank you so much for your email and concern. It was soooo nice to come home from the hospital and know I was missed. I appreciated your thoughtfulness.
     Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Sierra has a fight ahead of her to maintain her good health. Hopefully our dr. appt. today will go well. The unexpected sickness of Joe and my little guy adds to our worries for Sierra, too.
     What a joy and a miracle life is! I wish all of you wonderful birth experiences. Remember, even if they are different than your dreams, the end result is all that counts. My little china doll is living proof that miracles can and do happen. : )

Hugs, Kelly, Joe, David, and Sierra

Birth Story: I started having contractions, really all day Sunday but they started to get consistent at around 7:00 PM. Around 8:00PM we called the doctor.  Of course my doctor wasn't on call, so we waited for the on call Doctor.  Well, she never returned our phone call.  We finally called Labor and Delivery and they told us to come in.  We got there around 9:30 PM.  My contractions were about 4 min apart.  They really hurt.  I wanted an epidural but I was only 2cm.  They made me wait.  My doctor likes to deliver his own so they contacted him and he came in and broke my water I was already by that time 8-9cm.  They said there wasn't time for an epidural.  I said I couldn't do this, it hurt too much.  That was around 12:00 AM.  Well I stayed at 9cm forever and they finally told me I could have and epidural at 2:00AM,.  Thank heavens.  I still felt my contractions, but it took the edge off.  I pushed for a hour and ½.  It was difficult.  They finally called my doctor who was sleeping down the hall to come and deliver my baby.  He walked in the room with two other nurses and looked like a totally different person who I saw earlier.  He had gotten food poisoning and he looked awful.  He was white and green at the same time.  I asked him if he was ok.  The nurse said he was just going to sit there and supervise and she would deliver the baby.  Well, just then my doctor ran out of the room.  It was chaos and Ellie was going to come with or with out the doctor.  The nurse delivered her and she was maconium and the suction wasn't working.  It scared me because I could tell the nurse was nervous.  Ellie came through with flying colors.  She started breathing and crying.  I was so relieved.  My placenta would not deliver.  The nurse said go check to see if my doctor was coming back to sew me up or if they should call an ER doctor.  My doctor was laying outside my room on the floor.  He kept saying he would come back.  Well I sat there for an hour waiting for my placenta.  He finally came back, not looking much better, he gave me more petocin and was able to deliver my placenta and sew me up.  It was quite the ordeal and we pulled through.  I was very very swollen and I pulled a groin muscle.  I am still in pain but things are getting better.  I have to say I think my c-section was easier.

Birth Story: Logan Arthur Bohne was born on November 20, 1998 at 5:28 pm, weighing 7 lb 9 oz, 21 in. As you may know, I was trying for an unmedicated birth -- well that didn't happen, he arrived via C-section. Here is his traumatic arrival into the world.....
I went to the hospital to be induced Friday morning (11/20) and at 8:30a the pitocin was started. At 10:00a, the doc broke my water and now the fun begins. Contrax were pretty much coming on top of each other, but I was still able to breathe thru them. At about 2:00p, contrax were getting harder and I was dilated to about 4 cm. At 4:00p, I asked to get on the rocking chair because when I would go to the bathroom and sit on the toilet, it seemed to help the contrax.. However, the nurse (from hell, not supportive at all) informed me that I had to be confined to my bed (something I wanted to avoid) because the baby's heart rate kept dropping every time I had a contrax. At about 4:00p, they dropped me into a Trendelenberg position and strapped an oxygen mask to my face to see if that helped the heart rate go up. My doc suspected that the cord was wrapped around his neck and that his head was crooked in the birth canal. At 4:30p, my doc checked me and I was at 5 cm, she then suggested the c- section due to the fact that everytime they tried to increase the pitocin, his heart rate plummeted and she felt it was best for the baby to be born via c-section. My doc said I could continue to labor, but most likely would end up having an emergency c-section a few hours later. At this point, I was so exhausted and was having a hard time focussing on my horrible pit-contrax, I said "let's go, I want a healthy baby" and the next thing you know I am wheeled into the operating room and having that darned epidural I so much wanted to avoid -- oh well. Logan was born (a little blue) with the cord wrapped around his throat, and major bruising on the back of his head (his head WAS crooked in the birth canal) -- poor guy!!
All in all, I am not disappointed about the c-section, because it brought Logan into the world healthy.  My only complaint is I never knew how much pain was involved with a c-section -- I am VERY tender and have trouble getting around, which irritates me as I am a pretty independent person and hate to rely on others to do things for me. Oh well again, I will have other babies, and will try for a VBAC. I am just so happy that I have this perfect little guy, with a perfect little face.....he is a dream come true!
Life is good, I am so in love with my little son!!!!

Birth Story: Thank God for epidurals--but they are not the miracle painkiller that everyone sells them as--at least not for me!  The 14 hours of labor were well worth it though--for it brought my husband and I the most beautiful baby in the whole world--Denis Nolan!!!  I still get misty-eyed looking at him...realizing what a miracle he is and amazed still that that big thing came out of my body!!!

My DH is already trying to talk me into giving him a sister--who knows...maybe later this year, we'll "entertain" that idea for discussion--I'll be 38 in March...so time it is a'tickin!!

Birth Story: =  Madeline arrived on Thursday, October 29, 1998 at 3:46PM. She weighed 6 lbs, 14 3/4 oz, and was 18 inches long. She was born with a head full of long dark brown hair, which is the first thing everyone notices about her. She has a round little face with pink cheeks, an adorable mouth, and big alert blue eyes. Her daddy and I think she is the most precious thing we have ever seen!
It all started Wednesday night. At a little before 8:00PM I thought I felt some leakage. After putting on a pad, I sat down and watched "Dharma & Greg." Well, I laughed so hard that when I got up a half an hour later I felt the first gush! I went to wake Chris, who had worked about 15 hours that day with only 3 hours of sleep...he was exhausted. We got everything together and went to the Naval Hospital, where they put me on a fetal heart monitor. They had to confirm that my water had broken, but just before they were about to perform a spec exam, I rolled over onto my back and...GUSH...no exam needed! I laughed all the way to the bathroom!
They weren't busy that night so they let me pick my labor room. Once I was settled they hooked me back up to the fetal heart monitor, and they started to monitor my contractions. They started my IV for fluids, and a few hours later they started the penicillan for Group Beta Strep. The contractions had been pretty minor up until that point, but they soon started to get pretty strong. Our friend Amy arrived, and for the next couple of hours she and Chris talked me through my contractions. She left, and the contractions got worse and worse.
I asked for pain relief, so they gave me Stadol to start with. It helped some, but by 4:00AM I was begging for my epidural. No such luck! They wanted my contractions and dialtion to pick up, so they started a pitocin IV at 4:30AM. I think that was when they gave me more Stadol. There was only one anethesiologist on duty, and since he was otherwise occupied I had to wait for him until 7:15AM. The pain was bad, and I thank God I had Chris there to help me through it. The anethesiologist wouldn't do an epi since he was the only one there, so he gave me a Duramorph intrathecal instead. I don't remember the needle hurting at all, and my legs went numb almost immediately...Ahhh!
I slept for three hours, and woke up to more yucky contractions. The sleep had really helped though, and I was able to get through the rest of transition with the help of Chris and a really wonderful nurse. I asked for more drugs a couple of times, but never received any...oh well!
Finally I was ready to push! That had been the part I feared most, but it really brought so much relief! I pushed for a couple of hours, and I could finally feel the baby traveling down the birth canal. Just before her head started to crown, the midwife came in and everyone started to pull the bed apart and prep the room. A mirror was set up so I could watch, and Chris was at my side so he could see. After several good pushes I could see the top of her head! I was able to reach down and touch her head before I continued to push. After her head was out I had to wait a minute to continue, and then a couple of pushes later and she was out! No tears and no episiotomy! What an AMAZING experience! I started to cry as I reached for my baby girl. Daddy got to cut her cord, and soon she was on my tummy. After I held her they cleaned her off, and her daddy got to hold her while I delivered the placenta. The midwife showed me what had been Madeline's home for nine months, and it was so incredible to see the placenta! Soon her daddy went with her to the nursery, where she was bathed and given her first shots.
I stayed in the birthing room for quite a while, and Chris came back in to see me. He was so exhausted, but by the look on his face I could tell he was in love! I realized that I was still pretty drugged, so I had a lot of help getting settled in that afternoon. Madeline was brought to my room in the recovery area, where she was able to room in with me. Finally, I encouraged Chris to go home to rest. Madeline started breastfeeding, which is something she loves to do!
Her daddy showed up bright and early the next day, with teddy bear for her and flowers for me. He commented about how useless he felt in delivery, but I truthfully told him that I don't know how I would have done it without him. He was incredible! Madeline and I came home on Saturday, and Chris has taken such good care of us. My whole body is very sore from pushing for so long, but other than that I feel really good. Chris and I are so happy, and we feel so blessed! We are finally family, and very much in love with our beautiful daughter!

Birth Story: After 2 weeks of "prelabour", actual labour was short! Arrived at the hospital after 20 minutes of contractions (2-3 min. apart) only to be told I'd probably be sent home until in more active labour. Doctor arrived, examined me, and then broke my water. I went from 5 cm to 10 cm in 50 minutes. After pushing for 5 minutes, Marissa arrived. She would have been here a few minutes earlier, but the nurse held her head in until the doctor arrived in the room! Glad it was quick, but still can't decide if long or short is better. Happy to bring my little girl home to meet her sister and be a family.

Birth Story: Taylor Marie finally made her arrival, four days late, on November 23rd at 11:37pm. I was scheduled for a Prostin Cervical Ripening/Induction the evening of the 23rd and my dr. figured I'd deliver sometime on the 24th after several doses of the Prostin. Well, I must have been really "ready" because after the first suppository was inserted at 9pm I began contracting every 2 minutes! Ouch!! My labor was 2 1/2 hours from start to finish and my epidural didn't take until the last 2 minutes but, it was all worth it when I saw my beautiful little girl perfectly healthy lying on my chest! She has tons and tons of dark black hair... perfect for those lil' barrettes and bows! My 2 yr. old son is in love with his new lil' sister and his "big brother" status! We are all doing great....a little sleep deprived but, GREAT!!! : ) This is the part that makes those long 9 1/2 months of pregnancy worth every minute!!
