| Birth Story: I went in to the hospital on the
10th because we thought that my water had broke, it didn't but I was scheduled
for a c-section the following Thursday so we just decided to do it then.
He should've been 2 weeks early But it turns out my due date was off and
he was more like 5 weeks early! When they got him out he had trouble
breathing and they determined that he had a underdeveloped lung.
He was sent to the NICU and instead of getting stiched up my doctor had
to fix some internal problems caused by the c-section I had 4 years prior!
So instead of like 20 to 40 minutes I was there for almost and hour and
a half PLUS I learned, by throwing up throughout the entire surgery that
I am allergic to morphine! So I threw up until about 2 that morning
and I didn't get to see Shawn Dylan until 6 the morning after I had him.
He was in the NICU for 10 days. I finally got to hold him on Saturday afternoon,
he was born on Wednesday, and I got to feed him a 1 ounce bottle, which
he drank in like an instant! On Sunday he got moved to a second level
bassniette and he started taking 2 ounces and was off oxygen. By
Tuesday he was completely off his IV and his medicine and started breastfeeding.
I got to take him home on Friday, on an Apnea monitor. He has only
had an Apnea instance once in the 2 months and 3 weeks he has been home.
He gets to be off the monitor in one week, although he did have quite a
few high heart rate problems. He is doing great now!
The only problem I had with this c-section is my external stiches, staples, came out because I was making so many trrips back and forth to the NICU. It was so hard to have to leave him there and go home and especially hard to try to explain it to his big brother Kyler! But it was the best thing for him and now that he is home Kyler can't get enough of him! |

| Birth Story: My water broke 4am Wednesday morning when I got up to go to the bathroom. We left for the hospital around 5 and waited until about 6 to see the doctor. I was only 1 cm dialated and not in active labour but they feared infection so we began walking to get labour going. It didn't take long. By about 9am I was in active labour any 2 cm dialated. I jumped into the jacuzzi for about an hour. When I got out ... 6½ cm dialated. We set up for an epidural but it came a little too late. I was 9cm and things were moving fast. After about a half an hour of pushing ... Colton Jack arrived! Dad made it through labour and delivery and even managed to cut the cord! |

| Birth Story: My water broke at 9.15pm on October 15 (3 weeks early) and I had 10 minute apart contracts until about 6am on October 16. We went to the birthing centre where they did an internal and rebroke my water which speeded things up. After sitting in the hot bath for about 3 hours I got the urge to push and had Cooper kneeling over a beanbag on the floor. No rips, no tears, no stiches and I only used the gas! Am I proud of myself? You bet! My labour lasted for 21 hours and I'd do it again in an instant for the end result. |

| Birth Story: I was overdue and having nonstress
tests every few days because I was measuring small (36 cm). I also
had a late ultrasound - baby looked fine and we could see all the hair
- no wonder I had debilitating heartburn (if you believe the old wive's
tale).
On Wendesday Nov 18th, I ate a light lunch of chicken noodle soup before my regularly scheduled midwife appt. There, She broke my membranes and suggested having prostaglandin gel administered, perhaps Friday or Saturday if I didn't go into labor sooner. Around 4 pm, another midwife called from the practice - she was at the hospital with 2 other moms in labor - did I want to come up and have it done today - perhaps I could then go home, eat dinner, get a good night's sleep and if it worked, come back the next day in labor! I asked if I could drive home and she said yes, so I called DH and told him I'd see him after he got home from work and to pick up my 3 year old from preschool. I got to the hospital and the midwife noticed my increasing rate of contractions. They seemed like more BH ones to me so I had thought nothing of them. She hesitated to give me a full dose of gel incase labor was coming on naturally. I was at 2-3 cm; no more than I had been for a couple weeks now. We waited 45 minutes or so and she gave me a half dose. Soon the back pain started. She said I was in labor and they were going to send me back to the ldrp room! I called DH and he had to get my mom over to watch Shelby. By the time he got there around 7:00 pm I was so annoyed it took him so long - I was laboring in the shower by myself. I was at 4 cm and feeling it all in my back. We had read the Bradley books and were going to try for an unmedicated delivery - but I was really needing something if it was going to be a long haul. I asked the midwife how long she thought I would go - she said it might be another 5 hrs. I freaked at that thought and asked for something. She was going to try nubain and then maybe an epidural later if I wanted. I agreed and she went off to tend to her other two laboring patients. 40 minutes later she came back with the shot and said she better check me first - I looked pretty far gone. Sure enough I was at 9 - she couldn;t believe I had gone that fast. I was shaking uncontrollably - the nurses said that happens frequently when your labor progresses fast - plus I hadn't eaten much (they brought broth and popsicles when they first admitted me - it didn't help much!). My midwife said I'd need to push soon and just as she said that I needed to! They were scurrying to break open the room and get the warmer going and I just pushed a few times and baby's head was crowning! Thirteen minutes of pushing and baby's head was out. We didn't know the gender - a nurse saw the little face and said it look's like a boy! What if it was a girl after all I thought - but sure enough he was a boy. And he was 8 pounds 5 oz. So much for all the worry about me measuring small. And I am only a small framed 5 foot tall woman- I must have had space enough inside me to hide him! My daughter was the same size at 8 pounds 7 oz so I should have known better. He was so sweet - he had a litte crease on his chin and on his forehead. We call him Jack cuz DH goes by John and he is a great baby. We took him for his 2 week checkup and he had ballooned up to 11 pounds 8.75 oz. I couldn't believe it!!!! He's over 12 now and I have him in 3/6 and 6/9 month clothes - they fit in the chest but the legs are long. People laugh when they see me lugging him around and find out he's not even 7 weeks old! DH and I joke that I have bionic breastmilk. Anways, if you're still reading thanks and I'm glad I finally posted - I don't sign on nearly as much now that I'm not at work! Best wishes to everyone. |

| Birth Story: I started having irregular contractions
at about 3:30 AM Wednesday morning. We went to the
hospital at about 11am and my contractions were 1 minute long and 5 minutes apart. By about 3pm or so I was begging for some pain medication. I wanted an epidural, but the Dr refused to do this and gave me Nubain. I didn't realize that this drug wears off in 45 minutes, and they had put an IV on me at the same time, so I thought that I had medication the whole rest of the time! I pushed for only 14 minutes (I wanted that baby OUT!!), and out she came. All I could say when they placed her on my chest was "I did it! I did it!" She has lots of light brown hair, blue eyes, andis simply beautiful! |

| Birth Story: My waters broke at 6am, I have a history of short labours so decided not to hang around home for too long. Arranged for MIL to come and look after my other children and went to the birth centre at 9am. Not much happening only a couple of light contractions in that time. Decided to get into the wonderful spa bath they have at the birth centre at 10am immediately had a strong contraction and then another 5mins after and so on till 10.35am they were 2mins apart, was getting very uncomfortable in the spa bath so decided to get out by the time I got back to the delivery room I felt the urge to push it was 10.47am. Everything happened extremely quickly after that and Quin was born 6mins later. |

| Birth Story: I was 14 days early. Water
broke at 12:40 AM, Contractions started soon thereafter, at 15min, 8 min
then 5min. By 2:45 left for the hospital. By 4AM was on the epidural
(Why would anyone ever give birth without it???????!!!!!!!) By 7AM was
ready to push, and at 8:12 our PERFECT son arrived. They did not
do an episiotomy, so I did tear and had to be stitched, but otherwise
it was a breeze, Thank goodness! Michael had 9 and 10 apgar scores, a perfect
head and very few marks. He has beautiful auburn hair and Mark's
nose!
We are truly very lucky parents!!!! |
