Samuel J. Powell Sr. Will
I Samuel Powell of the County of Jackson and the State of Kentucky, being of sound
mind, and desiring immediately after decease that my personal estate be disposed of,
this my last Will and Testament. First I desire that my debts and funeral expense be paid.
Second I desire that my three daughters to wit, Elizabeth, Rhoda, and Jane have $100.00.
Third I desire that the three sons of my daughter Nancy to wit, Hiram, Ebenezer, and
Ambrose Dixon is as follows: I desire Hiram Dixon have $15.00, I desire that Ebenezer
Dixon have $10.00 and I desire that Ambrose Dixon have $20.00.
I further desire that my three daughters have the house furniture at their mothers
decease, equally divided amongst them, I further desire that said furniture be taken
care of by the executor of this will and testament, and that he see that it be not wasted or
destroyed.
I desire that my perishable property be sold immediately after my death and I desire
that after my estate be equally divided amongst my three sons and daughters, to wit.
Elizabeth Smith, Rhoda Creech, Hiram S. Powell, Ambrose Powell, Samuel Powell and Nancy
Yearly, and lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my son Ambrose Powell executor of my
last Will and Testament. And I hereby revoke all other former wills, made by me this June 16th.
1867.
Codicil, I further desire that none of the within named parts be givin to my heirs till after both
descease and my wife Jane's decesae, but that the same be delt out to my needs and my wife
Jane's needs as need requires. Signed and delivered in presence of witness Cornelius Moor,
Elias Moor.

I, J. M. Wood, clerk of the Jackson County Court certify that the forgoing Will of Samuel
Powell Sr. deceased was on the 2nd. of January 1871 produced and proven and having lain
over one month for exceptions and none having been made or taken the same was confirmed by
the court and ordered to record which is done this 25th. day of January 1872.
