Often thought of as a 'pickling spice,' Dill enjoys a nationwide popularity. Dill pickles, one of the most sold condemints, contains a lot of Dill seeds as well as Dill weeds, Mustard and other herbs and spices. My favorite bread is Dill bread. Good for bad breath, heartburn,and flatulance. I have frequently, when no other help was available, taken a sip of Dill Pickle vinegar for gas in the stomach. |

Fennel also has a flavor similar to Anise and the teas of these herbs were used for asthma and other respiratory complaints. I enjoy the seeds brewed into a tea and sweetened with the herb Stevia The Monarch Butterfly larva favors Fennel. Once when I had only one little fennel plant I found it being devistated by of them. They were big and fat and I didn't know what they were but thought they might be special so I carried them to some other plants over in the woods. Shortly afterwards I learned what they were and really felt bad as I had no way of knowing whether they survived. Now I try to have enough Fennel, Butterfly weed, or Dill to accomodate them.
