...I still need some help !!.. So stop a minute here! unless, of
course , you have already read it.!!
I am searching for the parents and siblings of my great- grand father
William E. Halley, Sr. who married Nancy G. STANDIFER (who the family
thinks was Terrapin Halley). (The spelling was STANDAFER according to
the marriage license issued to her and William E. HALLEY/HOLLEY in the
Franklin Co. Missouri 10 January 1867, but have located her parents and grandparents and STANDIFER seems to be correct.) My brother and Aunt Marie are pretty sure she was the grandparent PRIVATELY called by her Cherokee name, Terrapin.
According to the 1880 Federal census of Franklin Co Missouri, William
E. Halley Sr was born in Tennessee 1835 and Nancy G. [STANDIFER] in
Missouri, 1844; her parents from Virginia. Her Grandfather William
Standifer , Sr was born in North Carolina and her grandmother Susan [??]
in Virginia. My brother thought that Nancy was the Cherokee lady
referred to by the elders as Terrapin; William E. of Scot-Irish
decent. William's parents were both shown as born in Virginia.
Nancy's and William E Halley Sr.'s children, all born in Franklin
Co Missouri:
Now I need William E. Halley's father and siblings and David's
father, William Standifer's siblings and parents. If these names ring a
bell, let me know...I'll be eternally grateful ......My e-mail is at
bottom of page.
About 1916-17, before my father, Homer Henry Halley left to serve
in WW1, he had what was then a new box camera. Somehow I ended up with
it and kept it for years not realizing that the glass plates that were
used as negatives could be processed in this modern time! Finally this
past summer, in 1997, I took them to Karls Photography in Tyler, and a
young man there developed them for me and they were clear and sharper
than any of the snapshots taken with most little cameras of today! [I
had a Yashica Mat that Daddy gave me back in the 60's that was really
sharp though! It was a copy of the German 'Rolly.')
It was a 2.5x2.5 double lense, and I wanted an SLR\\ : )==] Any way, I
scanned them and added them to my digital album. My scanner is not a
state of the art, but it is clear enough to get an idea of a farm family herded out into the yard to 'git
their picher took'! The baby must have been asleep as she, Jewel, was
not in this one; here is another with her, Knewt and Ophelia. All three girls died of measles complicated by pneumonia. Jewell and Ophelia a week apart in April 1917 and Sadie in Sept 1917. Newt grew up to be a fine young man and matured into a fine senior citizen with his wife Marie and daughter Billie. He died 29 Sep 1993. He and my father, Homer, were the only siblings that lived to full maturity
Since I started this page, I have found and recieved quite a lot of information from cousins on the net! Have updated those below that have been added to.
HALE:
DAVID HALE's father had removed from Virginia or Tennessee before 1834. I do not have other information on him or his wife.
They may have been in the northern Arkansas area ??? As time went on, some of the family ended up in Missouri and went to Kansas and Oklahoma; Mary Elizabeth HALE [who was born 27 Jan 1844 in MO, wife of Thomas D. MEREDITH who was born abt 1842 in MO,] she having moved to Ottowa Co OK with her daughter Mary F. Meredith. Mary F. had married Erie L. STANDIFER who was born Mar 1858 in MO, son of Erie Standifer b Mar 1817 in TN. Erie's family had moved to Oklahoma after a stay, I believe, in Kansas. Mary Elizabeth died there in Miami OK 10 June 1927 and was taken back to Misssouri to be burried in the Virginia Mines Cemetery in Franklin Co MO.
