A brief history of the Taylor family.
According to verbal family history, this is the general belief of our trek to Canada. James McCudden and his wife Catharine had two children. A son John and a daughter Betsie. Betsie married John Taylor and they had four boys, James (b. 1853), Peter (b. 1842-1846), Joseph and Thomas (b. 1862). It is believed that the boys were born in Cumberland England. As the story goes, one perent died and left the other to take care of the four boys. One story says the father died and the other says the mother died. The remaining parent later met a person who was not Catholic and the McCuddens were outraged. They feared their grandsons were not going to be raised in the Catholic tradition.
The grandparents arranged passage to Canada aboard a ship and whisked the boys away in the night and took them to Canada around 1862-66. They settled in North Gwillimbury, York County Ontario where Taylor descendants still live today.
What happened to the Taylor boys? Well... Peter J. Taylor married Jane Mawhinney and they had four children, William, Joseph, James and Margaret. They moved from the farm to Matchedash Twp. where descendants still thrive.
James married Johanna Cryderman in 1879 and they had four children, Arthur, Frances, Ada and Alice. They moved to Saskatchewan and we don't know to much about them.
Joseph married and had two children, Joe and Emma.
Thomas married Catharine Mechan and their children were Jack, Guy, Roy, Fred, Norman, Peter, Bessie, Margaret, Georgia, William and a baby boy that died as an infant.
