April 1998
t seems like years since Dave began the mercury project that
has become his thesis, and years it has been... After we were
married in September, promises of a December graduation quickly
gave way to Winter quarter. Eventually, around mid-February,
it became clear that March would only find Dave signing up for
Spring quarter. Such is the life of an out-of-control
research project.
eanwhile, Jill had been diligently supporting us both.
Not only at work, where she was excelling as a systems manager,
but at home where Dave was "Excel"-ing . . . and "MS-DOS"-ing and learning
the inner workings of Word as a blearly-eyed researcher/writer.
ith the thesis all but complete, and Jill having given a month's notice
at work, the travel preparation (and the construction of this website) began in
earnest. Plans to trek in Nepal with family went down the tubes thanks to
the never-ending thesis, so we decided to leave Seattle not at 30,000 feet over
the blue Pacific, but by car over Snoqualmie Pass. See our
itinerary.
