19 Sep 1786 -- Deed Bk. 1, pg. 43: Aaron Lewis of Madison Co., VA to James

Dysart & Joseph Snodgrass jointly...150 pounds...parcel of land...in

Washington Co. on both sides of little Holstein a branch of the middle fork

of Holstein river being part of a tract of land granted unto the said Aaron

Lewis by patent bearing date 20 Nov 1784 containing 500 acres...beginning

at a Spanish oak on the west bank of the creek below the Iron works thence

with Joseph Cohills line N 63 E 61 poles to a white oak on the side of the

ridge thence N 77 E 285 poles to a black oak on the side of the ridge a

corner to Joseph Snodgrass's land and with his lines S 52 W 157 poles to a

black oak on the top of the ridge thence S 45 E 86 poles to a chesnut and white oak

thence S 74 E 66 poles crossing the branch to 2 white oaks and a hiccory

thence S 18 W 46 poles to 3 white oaks near David Snodgrass's road thence

S 42 E 30 poles to a white oak S 4 W 50 poles to a white oak thence S 70 W

44 poles to 2 white oaks and a hiccory on David Snodgrass's line and with

the same N 80 W 70 poles to 2 hiccories David Snodgrass's Corner N 33 W 60

poles crossing little Holstein to three white oaks then leaving said

Snodgrass's line and running with James Taggart's lines N 22 poles to a

white oak on the side of the ridge thence N 77 W 98 poles to 2 white oaks

and a hiccory on Andrew Kincannons line and with the same N 68 E 36 poles

to 2 white oaks thence N 17 W 30 poles to 2 beeches and a dogwood near the

creek thence up the creek S 82 W 54 poles thence N 81 W 38 poles to the

beginning...203 acres... Recorded 19 Sep 1786.

 

 

19 Aug 1794 -- Deed Bk. 1, pg. 344: John Snodgrass & Mary his wife to

Joseph Snodgrass, both of Washington Co., VA...5 shillings current money of

Virginia...220 1/2 acres...lying in the county of Washington on a branch of

Stallnickers creek and on the north side of the middle branch of Holestine

River, bounded as followeth Beginning at a red oak and white oak by the

head of a spring corner between said John Snodgrass and Joseph Snodgrass,?

thence S 30/38? W 46 poles to between two white oaks, thence for a division

line between the said John and Joseph Snodgrass S 84 E 40 poles to a black

oak and white oak in the side of a ridge, thece N 36 E 5 poles to a double

chestnut on a ridge N 83 E 24 poles to 2 white oaks, S 28 E 40 poles to a

stake by a spring branch, thence crossing said branch N 55 E 7 poles to a

white oak  stump on the East side of said branch, S 59 E 21 poles to a

large white  oak on a rocky ridge, N 86 E 100 poles to a large white oak

on the side of  a ridge S 53 E 188 poles to 3 white oak saplings on the

patent line and  with the same N 70 E 50 poles to 2 sourwoods and a locust

sapling N 44 E 338 poles passing Lewis's corner to a white oak thence with

Jamisons to a red oak on the side of a ridge, thence with the said

Jamisons line S 54 W 154 poles to the beginning...John Snodgrass Mary

Snodgrass Signatures acknowledged 19 Aug 1794 & recorded.

18 Aug 1795 -- Deed Bk. 1, pg. 423: Joseph Snodgrass & Mary his wife to

Michael Star, all of Washington Co., VA...457 dollars...parcel of land in

Washington Co. on the north side of the middle fork of Holstein River...207

acres...and bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at a black oak and white

oak corner to James Anderson and the said Michael Stars land thence S 35 W

119 poles to a large black Walnut amongst rocks N 85 W 42 poles to 2 black

oaks & 2 white oaks on the west end of a ridge, S 63 W 30 poles to 3 white

oak saplings on the patent line & corner between Archibald McCollock and

the said Starr thence for a dividing line S 25 E 196 poles to 3 white oaks

on a spur on the end of a draught, thence leaving McCollock corner N 61 E

76 poles N 43 E 110 poles to a stake on the side of the Knobs corner to

James Anderson land thence for a dividing line for the said Anderson and

Star N 27 W 187 poles up the meanders of the Spring branch dividing the

spring at a black oak and beech at the head of said spring between

Anderson and the said Starr, thence N 41 W 27 poles to the beginning...
